"May the Fourth Be With You" community event

May the Fourth Be With You! 

Join us May 4 for this out-of-this-world, community/fan-run convention! It's also a fundraiser for Make-A-Wish Foundation, the City of West Sacramento Dept. of Parks & Recreation's children's programs, and other local not-for profit  community organizations.   

TICKETS AVAILABLE AT THE DOOR FOR $10!  

Featuring vendors, artists, exhibits, light sabers, costume characters (including the 501st Legion Central California Garrison, Rebel Legion, SVRF, & Mandalorian Mercs),  costume parade, art, contests, comedy by Critical Hit Geek Comedy Troupe & Retrocrush, live entertainment including a saber battle by SaberCombat.com, games, kid's activities, arts & crafts, and more!  

Family-friendly 10 am to 4 pm; followed by PG-13* shows 4:45 pm to 8 pm (please note, no children under 13 will be allowed in the Black Box Theatre after 4 pm).

*Don't miss our special "PG-13" evening comedy acts, 5 pm to 8 pm, featuring Critical Hit Geek Comedy Troupe and Retrocrush! (Sorry, no children under 13 allowed!) Free with adult admission, but we recommend selecting a Your Highness Package while they last to guarantee a seat!

Announcing a COSTUME CONTEST! Here's details:


To enter, simply line up in front of the West Sac City Hall Galleria at 11 am sharp for our short costume parade which leads up to the Black Box Theatre across the street.  The contest will be in the theatre immediately following the parade!

Costume Contest Categories are:  

• Excellence in Craftsmanship

• Most original/creative

• Most humorous

• Best representation of the Dark Side

• Most heroic

• Best children’s 


We have an awesome group of special guest judges who will each pick one winner for each category and award a special prize that they've provided!  I'll be introducing the special guest judges soon in the comments below.

Come early, don't miss the parade and costume contest!  Registration line opens at 9 am so you can make sure to ready on time! 

What can you expect at our "May the Fourth Be With You" event?

You'll find registration and the vendor hall in our City Hall Galleria. The cosplay room, children's Holiday Special room, and exhibits room will be on the first floor of the Community Center; Live entertainment will be in the theater on the 2nd floor of the Community Center.

We will be raising funds for the following two CHARITIES:

1) Moo-la, the City of West Sacramento Parks and Recreation Department's official fee assistance program for West Sacramento families who want their children to benefit from Parks & Recreation programming, but may not be able to afford the cost for activities.  With Moo-la, those families can receive financial aid so their kids can play and be active for a lower cost.  


2) Make-a-Wish Foundation,® http://www.wish.org/ - Since 1980, the Make-A-Wish Foundation has enriched the  lives of children with life-threatening medical conditions through its  wish-granting work.

CITY HALL:

9 AM – 3 PM:  REGISTRATION opens in the CITY HALL front desk (moves to Black Box Theater at 4 pm) 

10 AM – 6 PM:  VENDOR HALL (in the GALLERIA adjacent to registration), presented by Toy Fusion. 

 10 AM – 7 PM:  VIDEO GAME LOUNGE, in the upstairs foyer above the vendor hall, hosted by Once Upon a Video Game. 

10:30 AM:    CHARITY HEAD SHAVING for St. Baldrick’s, outside in front of the City Hall.  Watch cosplayer Jennifer Ravensong get her head shaved down to nothing but a Sith symbol!  And you too can get a Sith or Rebel symbol buzzed in your hair or airbrushed on your skin for a $10 donation to St.Baldrick’s, all day ‘til 4 PM!

11 AM:   COSTUME PARADE: all costume contest participants, please join our short walking route, starting in front of the Galleria – look for the line-up sign outside.  (Parade leads across the street to the costume contest in the Black Box Theater, upstairs of the Community Center.)

4 PM  – 5 PM:   CHARITY AUCTION  in the Vendor Hall.

   

COMMUNITY CENTER FIRST FLOOR:

10 AM – 8 PM:  ART EXHIBIT in the 1075 ART GALLERY, featuring Star Wars-inspired art by Brandon Bracamonte', Chris

Cinder, Noel Serrato, Ted Buffington, and Jeremy Rathbone.

10 AM – 5 PM:  STAR WARS MEMORABILLA EXHIBIT, in the SENIOR LOUNGE, featuring Myke Soler’s extensive Star Wars collection and Brian Kameoka’s “Empire Strikes Bath”.

10 AM – 7 PM:  STAR WARS TABLETOP GAMES in BRIDGE CLASSROOM. 

 11 AM – 4 PM:  KID’S CRAFT ROOM (AKA Young Padawan’s Training), in the RIVER CLASSROOM 

 12 PM – 5 PM:  COSPLAY/PHOTO OPS ROOM, in the LARGE CONFERENCE ROOM (opens after costume contest).

2 PM – 5 PM:   SABER GUILD.  Meet leaders of local saber clubs!  Handmade sabers available for purchase! 

 11 AM – 8 PM:    LIVE ENTERTAINMENT in the BLACK BOX THEATER.

·  11 AM  – 12 PM:  COSTUME CONTEST:  immediately following the parade.

·  12:30  – 1 PM:  LIGHT SABER BATTLE DEMOS

·  1 PM – 2 PM:  “HOW TO MAKE A HOMEMADE LIGHTSABER” EXPERT PANEL presented by the leaders and makers of the top NorCal saber clubs and lighted saber manufacturers. 

·  2 PM – 3 PM:  COSTUME MAKING PANEL presented by James Burns of the Mandolarian Mercs

·  3 PM – 4 PM:   SHAKESPEARE’S STAR WARS CONTEST: Audience-participatory readings of excerpts from “William Shakespeare’s Star Wars: Verily, A New Hope.” Hosted & judged by Raeann of Critical Hit and theatrical director John Lee

·  4 PM4:45 PM:  THEATRE INTERMISSION (Note: No children under 13 years old allowed in the theater after 4 pm)

·  4:45 PM – 5 PM:  BELLY DANCING, LIVE FROM JABBA’S PALACE!

·  5 PM – 7:15 PM: Critical Hit Geek Comedy Show: May the Fourth Edition, followed by audience-participation improv!

(Intermission 6:15-6:30)

·  7:30 PM – 8 PM: DEATHSTAR INTERROGATION DROID: meet with the West Sacramento Parks & Recreation staff and event organizers to provide feedback and get any questions you may have answered!

FOOD SERVICES:

In YoloBus curb in front of Community Center: Papa Dale’s & Sun's gourmet food trucks, 11 am to 7pm, plus Luciano's ice cream 4 pm to 7pm.

 Across the street on the City Hall side:  Subway restaurant, open 8 am to 8 pm.
