Earthrise: Beacon of a New Worldview
On December 24, 1968, Apollo 8 astronauts took a photograph that would change collective human consciousness forever.
Why was this photo, “Earthrise,” so important?
As mythologist Joseph Campbell explained to Bill Moyers during the Power of Myth interviews: “The only myth that is going to be worth thinking about in the immediate future is one that is talking about the planet, not the city, not these people, but the planet and everybody on it.”
Join us as Craig Chalquist, PhD, author of Terrapsychology and Rebearths: Conversations with a World Ensouled, and 6 other books, unpacks the implications of this image to support Campbell’s idea, which has since branched into ecology, environmentalism, Earth day, ecopsychology, ecotherapy, permaculture, and many other expressions of Earth’s active psychic presence rising into collective consciousness.
BIO: Craig Chalquist, PhD is a core faculty member in East-West Psychology at the California Institute of Integral Studies and a faculty member in the Department of Consciousness & Transformative Studies (College of Graduate and Professional Studies) at John F. Kennedy University. He earned his PhD at Pacifica Graduate Institute, where he studied depth psychology with an ecological approach.
