Let's start Spring Training for our summer peak hikes!

We'll meet at our usual Kick A** Hill location (parking area on Russell Road), head down Upper Stagecoach, onto the single track trail that drops onto Hwy 49 at the confluence. From there, we'll do a quick jaunt up Training Hill, come back down and resume our normally scheduled Kick A** Hill hike.

Kick A** Hill is a series of continuous hills that grades from 10 to 40 degrees up and each one is a climb that stretches from 30 to 70 feet in length.

As the title indicates, this hike is classified as advanced and all hikers are expected to keep up with the group's pace. Kick-a** Hill represents a challenge to most particularly if they haven't done it before. The group generally waits for everyone at the top of the hill then continue by crossing Foresthill Bridge and finish the easy trail on a loop heading back to the trail's conclusion. There is construction underway at the bridge so we'll make our way thru it. Please do not change the trail course. Bring plenty of water, snacks, headlamp, poles if you have them and gloves to prevent slippage and most important, a happy attitude.

TRAILHEAD DIRECTIONS: Take I-80 towards Reno and exit at Lincoln Way in Auburn. Turn right then make a left turn on Russell Rd. It is the first road to your left. Follow Russell for about a 3/4 mile on a winding road and you'll find parking spaces on the left. The trail starts here to the left at the green gate.

    Hi Cheryl
A woman from hiking and co. her name is Sheri Casiple would like to go on the hike tonight with us. She tried to sign up with the group but no reply. So I sent her the info for the hike. See you tonight.

Looking forward to another great Wednesday

Last week, I did Kick A** to the top, but saw the sign that said no pedestrians on bridge crossing. So, I went down Kick A**, which I found more difficult to not slide. Could you tell me what you do to cross Foresthill Bridge by making your "way through it"? Thanks.

Oh, BTW, kudos to you for coming back DOWN Kick Ass Hill. I don't believe any of us have tried that one yet!

I agree Cheryl, kudos to you Dave. I don't think I would like to go down kick ass hill :-)

Thanks, Cheryl, for the solution to my hill dilemma. Yes, crampons and ice axe would have helped.

    How many miles

    April 30, 2013

    • Cheryl Z

Just Kick Ass Hill logs about 5.5 miles, I'll estimate adding Training Hill will be an additional 3 miles.
