It's been awhile since we've met at the Upper Stagecoach trailhead.

We'll start out there, but once we get down to the confluence, let's cross over and do the Quarry Trail to Boot Buster Hill, come back down and head up Kick Ass Hill, and return on Upper Stagecoach.

As the title indicates, this hike is classified as advanced and all hikers are expected to keep up with the group's pace. Both Boot Buster and Kick Ass Hills represent a challenge to most, particularly if they haven't done it before. The group generally waits for everyone at the top of each hill before we continue on.

Bring plenty of water, snacks, headlamp, trekking poles, if you like to use them, and gloves to prevent slippage and most important, a happy attitude.

Please note the time change to 5:30 pm.

TRAILHEAD DIRECTIONS: Take I-80 towards Reno and exit at Lincoln Way in Auburn. Turn right at the stop sign and left onto the next street, which is Russell Road. Continue approx. 3 miles on Russell Road and you will see parking spaces on the left hand side of the road, where the road bends sharply to the right. Parking here is free. There are limited spaces, but you can also park alongside the road.

A great evening with all the necessary ingredients to make it another memorable adventure; hiking in the dark without enough flash lights (thanks Cheryl for bringing two of them), fence scaling and trespassing (what happens on the trail stays on the trail), heart-stopping low flying bats, furry nocturnal creatures staring at us as we pass by and of course, as always the great company! Good spending time with you all....till next time

I'll second Graydon's "necessary ingredients" comment. The only thing missing was maybe a California Condor sweeping by.

Great hike with the greatest group of hikers! A big longer than anticipated, but we made it out safe and sound with our limited lighting. Beautiful evening for hiking. Thanks guys!

I am really interested in this hike. What is the elevation gain & over how many miles?

Elevation gain will be from the bottom of the Foresthill Bridge to the top, which is 760+ feet - That is Kick Ass Hill. Boot Buster Hill is not that much elevation gain, but steeper grades. Total mileage is approx. 7-8 miles.
