The hike is located on Highway 49, 1/4 of a mile from the green gate.

Much of the beginning of the trail is easy going on flat fire road and pavement. It links up to other trails as part of the Auburn State Recreation Area (ASRA).

After a short distance, the beautiful American River becomes visible as we traverse up a fairly short incline to meet with the switchback dirt hiking path of the PG&E road trail which leads to the rock quarry.

The short part of the trail leads us to fascinating and stunning views of two towering rocks. At this point, we will have two options - the advanced option is the Boot Buster Hill. We have yet to gauge the steepness, length, and elevation gains of this hill but it is indeed strenuous, so be prepared for a good work-out.

The intermediate option is to go to the left of Boot Buster Hill, where the incline is less strenuous. Both paths meet at the top, for awesome views of the American River.

After we complete the Quarry Trail/Boot Buster hike, for those that want an additional challenge, we will head over and climb Kick Ass Hill and cross the Forresthill Bridge and come back down the Bridge View Trail.

It is suggested to bring gloves, a headlamp and plenty of water.

Hi Marla, we'll miss you. I'm so glad you are getting in some higher elevation peaks. You should be totally ready for Whitney! Good luck and look forward to hearing all about it when you join us again.

Hi I am a recent member to this group. Seems most of the hikes are very advanced. Are there any hikes more tailored for people getting into or getting back into hiking??

This group is for all levels, you go at your own pace. This particular hike is more strenuous b/c it's hiking up two steep climbs however this is optional, you don't have to do both and can stop at any time.
