Up for a midweek hike workout that's better than the gym?
We'll start out on the Quarry Trailhead, then head up Boot Buster Hill. Boot Buster Hill is quite steep in the center and gloves are definitely recommended. An intermediate option is to go up on the right side of the hill, where there are more footholds. Both routes lead to the top, where we have stunning views of the American River.
We take a loop trail back to the Quarry Trail and then we will head on over to Training Hill.
As the title indicates, this hike is classified as advanced and all hikers are expected to keep up with the group's pace.
Bring plenty of water, snacks, headlamp, poles if you have them and gloves to prevent slippage and most important, a happy attitude.
TRAILHEAD DIRECTIONS: Take I-80 towards Reno and exit at Elm Ave in Auburn. Turn left at the stoplight, and another left and the next stoplight, following the signs towards Cool (Hwy. 49S). After you wind down into the canyon, turn right at the confluence, right after you cross the bridge, the green gate (#150) will be on your right. Park on the right hand side of the road past the green gate. Parking here is free. You will cross to the other side of the road and walk up about .25 mile to the Quarry trailhead. We will meet by the trailhead sign.
