Up for a midweek hike workout that's better than the gym?

We'll start out on on the Upper Stagecoach Trailhead, located on Russell Road, then head up Kick Ass Hill. These are a series of continuous hills with grades from 10 to 40 degrees up and each one is a climb that stretches from 30 to 70 feet in length.

As the title indicates, this hike is classified as advanced and all hikers are expected to keep up with the group's pace. Kick-a** Hill represents a challenge to most particularly if they haven't done it before. The group generally waits for everyone at the top of the hill then continue by crossing Foresthill Bridge and coming back up Upper Stagecoach.

Bring plenty of water, snacks, headlamp, poles if you have them and gloves to prevent slippage and most important, a happy attitude.

TRAILHEAD DIRECTIONS: Take I-80 towards Reno and exit at Lincoln Way in Auburn. Turn right at the stop sign, then left at the next street, which is Russell Road. Go down Russell Road, approximately 1 mile (or less) and you will see parking spaces on the left hand side of the road. Parking here is free.

Total mileage is approximately 6 miles and takes about 2 hours.

Just now getting to this after a long day of packing, cleaning and moving out! In limbo now... while I await word on my new place. Anyway, just wanted to say what an inspiring group this turned out to be. We've had many variations over the last 5 or so years that I've been on this and other nearby hills.... but this group definitely has a good thing going on! You can't help but feel so much better after the "Wednesday challenge." Thank you to Cheryl for being so consistent -- and for leading us all this time. You guys are the best! Ron, you've got the heart of a lion.... (Ron, "the Lion" Terrell... kind of has a nice ring to it. Right?) Thanks for the great send-off everyone. Oh... and keep up the good work "skid marks," .... I mean Graydon!

Bonnie, the question is.... what other kinds of pictures do you have collaged to your ceiling? ; ) Now... we're all curious, but thanks. I'll have my PR guy contact you. : ) Kathy -- you bet! Hope to be back, or see you guys on a Bay Area or coastal hike!

Ron / Cheryl. Thanks again. It definitely helps to get that nice of a send-off! And Ron.... when you're at Stanford, hope you'll contact me so we can meet for coffee or something.

Another tough hike for me. I will have to get in better shape before I go on any more hikes. The hikes do help to get a good night sleep. Thank you Cheryl

You are doing great and in shape. Remember I am the slowest hiker, like being slow and will stay with you. Nothing special, because on all the hikes when you can run circles around everyone, YOU always cater to the slowest hiker. I can speak for the group we all Love Ron and his smile and on hikes you feel too weak on during your ordeal (this is natural) we ache for you. Bonnie

Just an FYI, I had suggested we do Training Hill next week, but I have Kick Ass Hill on the schedule and will leave it there one more week, before we start alternating some of our other hills. Besides, we should check out Kick Ass Hill again soon, as I want to see Graydon's mud slide tracks :)

I'm packing some skis and will start at the top next week :-)

Wow - Slick Ass Hill was sure a challenge this week! But we all made it. Graydon wins the prize for the most well executed backwards mud slide, and the longest distance - way to go! It was so fun to be out with all you awesome hikers. Congratulations and a fond farewell to Lee. You will be dearly missed, my friend! Best wishes to you in your new venture.

I want to acknowledge Ron for the remarkable man you are. Kick-ass hill was hard today. It was slippery, dark and unusually steep and long, it seems, as was much of the rest of the hike and Ron your courage, strength, tenacity and pure will power inspire me and I feel blessed to spend these two hours a week in your company. My hat is off to you!

Well said and I totally agree! What an inspiration Ron is and just a delightful person to be around. I feel so blessed he is part of our group. And you, too :)

You know it's going to be an adventure when you see signs that say "undetermined weather ahead, carry chains" on the drive up here! "Undetermined" sounds like Armageddon !! lol

Going to sit by my warm, crackling fire, enjoying a rather favorite hot cocoa recipe of mine and live the wet, soggy, muddy experience through all of those photos you are going to take and post for me. Have fun, you nuts! See you on dry land next week!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
