SUNDAY Event: Fairy Falls

  • June 18, 2006 · 8:00 AM

Copied from www.waterfallswest.com: "Here is one waterfall with many names: Fairy Falls, Shingle Falls, Beale Falls, Dry Creek Falls. It is shown on the topo maps as Shingle Falls. The local name for the waterfall appears to be Fairy Falls. Brown calls it Dry Creek Falls in her waterfalls book, as the waterfall is along Dry Creek. Nonetheless, this is a very pleasant, and easy walk through the countryside, to a very pretty waterfall, nestled in a little canyon. There is a Lower Fairy Falls, about 30 feet high, but you will need to scramble along the rocks to get a good view. Upper Fairy Falls is more impressive, just a short ways upstream. Hike down the steep bank to the base of the falls and have lunch on the rocks." Distance: 5 miles (RT) Elevation: 350 ft. (+450 ft.) Directions: From Marysville, drive east on Hwy #20 for 15 miles to Smartville. Turn right on Smartville Road (to Beale AFB). Drive 5.5 miles to Waldo Road and turn left onto the gravel road. Drive 2.1 miles to Spenceville Road and turn left. Drive to the end of the road to a bridge. Cross the bridge on foot, where the trail begins. CARPOOL LOCATION: ROSEVILLE PARK AND RIDE (SUNSPLASH PARKING LOT) or meet at the trailhead. The park and ride is off the Atlantic/Eureka exit going north on I-80. Park closest to the Shell Station. As always - bring $ for carpool driver or be prepared to be a driver. With the high price of gas, pay at least $3 per hour of drive time. Bring lunch, snax, sunscreen, WATER, etc. For more information, see http://www.waterfalls...

Since this was my first hike in awhile, I thought it was great except for the heat and my too small shoes. The shoes were my problem, tho. The waterfall was very nice and soothing after the hike there, especially the foot soaking part. :)

What this hike lacked the group of people made up for. I was quite upset at all the trash people had left behind and a certain member (cough Melanie cough) was a great person and started picking trash up as we walked back from the falls, dirty socks and all. The falls were very nice and the "adventure" was quite fun as well.

It was a wonderful group of people, all ages. They just loved a new territory. I had a wonderful time!

This was my first hike and I would have to say it was ok. It was in the foothills and I am not a big fan of the foothills but I still had a decent time. It was really hot which took a little of the fun away.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
