(Brenda 588-5152) For those of you who want to meet at Sunsplash parking lot, we will meet by 4:30. Please call in advance if you plan to meet at Sunsplash.
The hike is located on Highway 49, 1/4 of a mile from the green gate.
Much of the beginning of the trail is easy going on flat fire road and pavement. It links up to other trails as part of the Auburn State Recreation Area (ASRA).
After a short distance, the beautiful American River becomes visible as we traverse up a fairly short incline to meet with the switchback dirt hiking path of the PG&E road trail which leads to the rock quarry.
The short part of the trail leads us to fascinating and stunning views of two towering rocks. Along the side of these rocks is the Boot Buster Hill. We have yet to gauge the steepness, length, and elevation gains of this hill but it is indeed strenuous, so be prepared for a good work-out.
If you have experienced hiking the Training and Alan's Kick A** Hills, this represents an additional challenge. It is however, shorter than any of those two hills and had been climbed by others before. There are semi-worn but established steps along the hill for most of the way up, but you'll still need your gloves for balance.
