Hike Planning Tips / Thoughts

These are just thoughts and guidelines NOT requirements.

Event Descriptions

What to include in the Event Description text:

  • Give a detailed description of the hike and include the length, elevation (if in the mountains) and elevation gain. Also include the difficulty.
  • If you got the info from a hike book state the book and page. If from the web provide a link.
  • Include a carpool location(s) (see tips on Carpool locations).
  • Include your name and contact info
  • Include Topo map info
  • Include Trailhead information and directions to get there.
  • Include if dogs are allowed
  • Include what conditions might cause the event to be cancelled
  • Include any special items you might need to bring - standard list of items is in FAQ

Carpool Locations

Try and pick a central location for your carpool location. Remember that people are coming from all over the greater Sacramento area (and maybe anywhere in the valley). Even better have one for each side of town and ask people to state where they will meet to carpool from. If you are planning multiple carpool locations and are going to go from one to the next allow a reasonable amount of time to get to each one and for loading up, etc.
Also rather than just saying meet at location at 9:00 AM state it more like: meet at 9:00 AM leaving at 9:15 sharp.
