How did you become interested in the Japanese language?

I have been studying and practicing Yoshinkan Aikido for 10 years since the age of 9. I really enjoyed the philosophy of Aikido and had an opportunity to go to Japan and practice Aikido in 2005. During my two week visit, I experienced many things that I never would have thought possible. I learned a lot about Japanese culture, food, social aspects, and language. Everyone I met was very friendly despite my almost non existing vocabulary of Japanese. I consider it one of the greatest experiences in my lifetime. I would definitely like to go back with a better understanding of the language so that I can meet new people and make new friends.

What's your fluency level? Newbie? Beginner? Intermediate? Advanced?

Intermediate. I've taken 5 years of Japanese in middle school and high school under the instructor, Mizue Kumagai.

What would you like to get out of your participation in this group?

I would like to further develop my conversational skills. I have fairly decent comprehension of the language, but not very much practice in conversation. I would like to develop my accent more as well.
