January 2014 Sacramento Speakers Network Meeting

Where: Doubletree Hotel 2001 Point West Way Sacramento, CA 95815

Meeting Fee: $15 for PREPAY ON LINE, $20 AT THE DOOR

Meetup Description: We meet on the first Wednesday each month to discuss the business of speaking and work on ways to help each other find more speaking opportunities. We are open to experienced speakers as well as those just getting started. Our meetings generate a lot of energy and ideas!

We invite attendees to participate and share ideas and challenges since this is how we each find unique value in attending. Also, many of our members are business owners and are finding ways to team up and do business with each other outside of the group. Lots of great networking is happening here!

PLEASE NOTE: This is not a leads group. If your primary objective is to sell something, this isn't the group for you. We are here to help each other grow and prosper!

MEETING AGENDA:

6:30 to 7:00pm: Informal Networking

7:00 to 8:30pm:

*Introductions and Speaking Engagement Announcements

*Guest Speaker: Brian Jud - Selling More Books, Profitably, to Non-Bookstore Buyers

Calling all authors (and aspiring authors too!).

Every year, more books are sold to buyers in market segments outside of bookstores than are sold in bookstores. And they can be sold more profitably on a non-returnable basis. These include buyers for supermarkets, gift shops, corporations, associations, schools and many more. Are you getting your share of these sales? Brian will show you how to find new markets for existing titles, locate new users for your existing information, find new uses for your basic information and increase your sales and profits.

About the Speaker (He is flying in from the east coast to join us!):

Brian Jud is an author, book-marketing consultant, speaker, seminar leader, television host President of Book Marketing Works and a partner in Premium Book Company that sells books to non-bookstore buyers on a non-returnable, commission basis. He is also the Executive Director of the Association of Publishers for Special Sales (APSS – formerly SPAN).

Brian is the author of How to Make Real Money Selling Books (Without Worrying About Returns) This is the ultimate do-it-yourself guide to selling your books to non-bookstore buyers in large quantities, with no returns. He also wrote Beyond the Bookstore (a Publishers Weekly® book), a primer on non-bookstore marketing.

Reach Brian at [masked] or you can visit the APSS website at www.bookapss.org or through his web site at www.bookmarketingworks.com.

*Goals and Challenges - How can we help you? We will draw names for the opportunity to share your challenges in the 5-minute spotlight.

*Lead Sharing - Do you know about a group or event that needs a speaker?

*Drawing for Prizes - Optional: bring a prize for the drawing!

Please be sure to tell a friend who might also enjoy our group.

I don't know if it's a trick, maybe just good listening and associating.

I'd suggest that "associating" IS the trick.

Indeed ... great meeting! It was good to see Stephanie again. And I'd sure like to know how the speaker memorized the names of everybody in the room. That was an amazing trick.

It was another wonderful meeting. I always love seeing everyone at our SSN! Stephanie, it's so great to have you back! Brian was full of information as well. I hope all of you have a terrific month!

Alondra, Doug is right. I noticed Brian had some trouble hearing, even in a one-on-one conversation. So I think he simply didn't hear your name correctly. But I was quite impressed with that too, and always appreciate how much content he delivers.

Good to see Stephanie. I first heard Brian Judd at a Span conference in the Bay area 10 years ago. What amazes me about him is that he is willing to speak to small groups for a small fee. He offered to come to speak at NCPA when I was president. He is like Stephanie, willing to share freely what he knows.

Great meeting - I think Brian Jud is brilliant! his bulk sales book is so great and I also loved his name recall trick! I also enjoyed the hotseats and hearing what everyone is up to. Introductions are so fast and I wonder what folks think of post-event "introductions" via a google document or even on here ie write down what you said after the event. I'd love to follow-up with some folks but didn't catch all the names, books and websites.

Yes, that was an amazing trick with all the names. And I sure felt stupid when my colleague asked me this morning the name of the 1 speaker, and I struggled to come up with it. Memory is no longer my thing.

Thank you, Stephanie, for the information on paying. When I went to the longer website address the icon to pay came up.
