This year marks Charles Darwin's 201st birthday and Sacramento's 13th celebration of it!

This years guest speaker will be Dr. Andrew J. Marshall who will give a presentation on "How Conservation Depends on Evolutionary Biology: Examples from Borneo?s Rain Forest".

Dr. Marshall is an Assistant Professor of Anthropology and Ecology at the University of California, Davis. Received his undergraduate and graduate degrees at Harvard University in biological anthropology, ecology and botany. Dr. Marshall has conducted more than fifty months of field research in Indonesia, and recently coedited the two volume book, The Ecology of Papua.

Darwin Day is an international celebration of science and humanity held on or around February 12, the day that Charles Darwin was born on in 1809. Specifically, it celebrates the discoveries and life of Charles Darwin -- the man who first described biological evolution via natural selection with scientific rigor. More generally, Darwin Day expresses gratitude for the enormous benefits that scientific knowledge, acquired through human curiosity and ingenuity, has contributed to the advancement of humanity.
