Getting to Know Each Other! Social Mixer at the Park for fun!

Hi Vegans or Wanna Be Vegans!

I think, since we have so many members, it would be nice to just relax and get to know each other....without a speaker! We want our compassionate family to know who we are, why we care about veganism, and see how we can all know a little bit more about each other! This is also a pressure less, casual event to bring friends and family along who are not yet vegan.

This is bring your own picnic lunch and drink and blanket or chairs! We will meet at my house and then walk to Curtis Park, which is 3 houses from my house!

Come and let's talk and meet! No pressure, just a way for us to branch out with our vegan community friendships! So often, we vegans stick in our little clicks but now we can break out and be inclusive! If you are already vegan, maybe you can inspire someone else in our wanna be vegan group! Not everyone is vegan yet, and that is OK!! If you are just a bit veg curious, that is all that is needed! No judgement here! Most of us were NOT vegan at birth and many of us are newly vegan or almost vegan.

Just wear comfy walking shoes in case some of us want to walk the mile around the park! This is optional. Kids are welcome...there is a nice playground right next to where we will meet at the park!

There will be coffee and tea provided at my home.

A person recommended a blender for smoothies and there were great raves about it. What was the name of that blender?

The meeting and introductions were great!

    Thanks, Bobbie

I LOVE my Vitamix. Waited a long time for it and so glad of the investment. Got it from Costco and use it about 3 times a day!! Love it! From smoothies to soups to frozen desserts all made in the same machine in under 2 minutes!!

Sorry you had to leave some of you! I know the introductions took longer than expected! I hate to time people but next time I will ask each person to keep it 3 minutes and that should speed things up next time! It was great to hear everyone's journey to compassion and wellness!!!! We are our support group, no matter where you are! Pls feel free to discuss any issues you are having and maybe one of has experienced the same issue! This a path and not always easy at first! Feel free to ask!! The fact that any of us is trying to know more is a good thing!!! The animals have zero choice but we do!! Congratulations to each of you as you open your heart and your brain!!!

Hi Bobbie... My friend Susan bought her bullet online and she loves it!!! Great for travel!!! Nice to have you at picnic !

I have a blend tec now and gave my vitamix to my daughter. She uses it every day. It was over 10 years old when I gave it to her. For under $400, it was worth it. I liked them both. However, someone recommended a smaller one that you could travel with. Blendtec is good. However, blades are above where I sometimes want to chop nuts or mix small amount, and that is not good for me.

I believe the one mentioned from Bed, Bath and Beyond was $129.

Linda was familiar with the smaller blender mentioned.

I use my Blendtec every day. Smoothies with veggies are great!

    Thanks for responses.

Bobbie, that was a Vitamix I believe. I don't know much about it. I'm still using my $20 blender from like 10 years ago lol. :)

Thank you everyone for sharing your stories, advice and inspirations! As a newly vegan member, it was very helpful. It's also wonderful to hear how everyone is working on different aspects of being more aware and more compassionate. I think it so important to be compassionate with eachother and accepting of where each one of us is at in our journey.

I enjoyed the picnic and sharing of stories, and being among conscientious and kind people. Though I was disappointed by a few comments made that did not come from the heart, but from judgment. These were, of course, only a few comments, which expressed a singular view most likely not shared by most people present. I think maybe I can come away from the meetup with a gladness that many share this choice to live a healthy, compassionate life with honor and respect for animals and for self.

Every one of us is an inspiration to each other!! The whole reason for this social was for all of us to hear stories and difficulties you may be having in going vegan or staying vegan! We all know that the vegan diet is the healthiest for us and it is the only kind diet that does no harm! Do no harm is our motto! Loved hearing Ram's story about a cow crying when someone dies! Very moving. We know that all animals can feel pain and just want to live their lives in peace.. Just like we humans!
I so happy to hear that some of you are holding strong with vegan lifestyle even if family members are not awake yet! Please discuss any issues you have with us! We can help support you! Join our cooking classes and whole food tours too!!

Linda you are always an inspiration, and the people also. What stories and wonderful people. Thanks so much for having the picnic in the park.

What a wonderful day in the park! Such powerful stories of transformation with a plant based diet! People losing 100+ lbs, people getting off all statins, people watching movies like Earthlings and awakening to the truth about factory farming, the Gov't and Big AG.

The story from Ram that cows in India are pets much like dogs here and that cows exhibit emotions and feelings- they cry when their owner dies!

Amy who rescues chickens from the feed store that puts them in the freezer still alive! I'm so grateful to know what I know and be where I am! I had tears in my eyes but my heart was filled with joy!

    Thank you Linda!

we can't make it tomorrow due to prior commitments... does anyone have any ideas for healthy snack and food choices for the children? I became Vegan in January and the children are doing ok but I could do with some advice please! Hope to meet some of you soon at another event!

This will be SO nice to see our long time members and meet our newer members and have both dog on leash and kid friendly meetup!! Just to get to support each other!!! I know many are just getting started or are still trying to figure out how to get on the kind vegan path, but the fact that you are considering this compassionate and healthy way of living is the key and most important reason for being in this wonderful family of humans!! Some of us, like me, do have our own family members who will not, do not consider going vegan for any reason ... So having our Sacramento Vegan Society as a source of companionship is absolutely wonderful for our hearts!! My own daughter and son in law and my grandchildren dine on the flesh of all animals, eat dairy and eggs.., with zero curiosity or concern! So I am SO thankful for each of you for caring enough to be curious!!! Thank you!!!!

No, I did not write a vegan cookbook yet, but I am a Nutrition and Cooking instructor, Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. (PCRM.org)! I can help you learn Healthy vegan recipes and tips!! We have Emily and Bethany who can do this also! So our society is helping people find foods and recipes to promote vibrant health...!! And, of course, we like to help open hearts so we can help all beings, not only human beings!

I've been struggling and leaning towards being vegan and could use a supportive group of friends and foodies! Is this the Linda who wrote a vegan cookbook?

I know many in our group are just getting started and it can feel overwhelming at first! By being vegan long timers, you can learn new tips and be around others who want to include you and this new, compassionate lifestyle!
