We need to constitute ourselves as a legal nonprofit; it is the only way to get set up with a bank account and raise money for events, speakers, etc. To do so, there are paperwork requirements we have to satisfy. In particular, we need to have bylaws and an organization with a Board of Directors, officers, etc. It’s time to get serious about doing this.
So we will devote the summer Meetups this year, including this, the second, to creating those things. They will be working Meetups at my home, the better to concentrate and caffeinate ourselves into productivity. But don ’t forget to fuel yourself too! Bring a brown bag lunch so you don’t get hungry. Hungry people are always cranky.
Don't worry, we don't have to do this work entirely from scratch; we can draw on several samples of such documents to put together our own version. In fact, you can look at these samples in advance. I have uploaded them to the Meetup site. Under the “More” tab, click on “Files”. You will see three files with “Bylaws” in the title. Click on them to view them on your own computer.
This shouldn't be terribly difficult, though some decisions will have to be made. Come, join us, and move the group forward! Looking forward to seeing everybody there.
