Instructor's Bio:
Ishi Maderas is an accomplished musician and teacher in Eugene Oregon. He has been a professional musician since age ten and has played in countless bands since then. Ishi specializes in Afro-Cuban and Afro-Puerto Rican rhythms and plays many instruments including the cajon, drum kit, congas, timbales and percussion. He has been teaching workshops, group classes and private lessons for nearly a decade and he has his own studio in Eugene.
Ishi grew up in a culturally rich family where traditional dance and drumming was always part of day-to-day life. With Puerto Rican, Taino, Arawak, and African roots, as well as his mother's life long passion for Caribbean, Spanish Classical, and Flamenco dance he has been playing for a variety of dancers, and studying the music most of his life. At a very early age, Ishi was inspired to study the techniques of many of the greats such as Giovanni Hidalgo, Bobby Sanabria, Raul Rico, Carlos Patato Valdez, Candido Camero and so on. He utilizes the strength of technique and the passion of the music to inspire and educate all that are interested in learning Latin rhythms.
