Amigos, y los demás:
Si Dios quiere … soon my wife and I, as well as our sweet pup Maple, will be moving to Flagstaff, Arizona. We are looking forward to this new adventure.
I have learned mucho from the many Spanish learners and speakers here in Salt Lake City, and I will miss this community. However, my loss is your gain … for now there are 2 opportunities available to anyone who wants to claim them, positions I have been hogging for much of the last few years.
Opportunity #1 – Organizer of the Salt Lake City Spanish Meetup Site. This is a volunteer position, moreover you will have to pay $72 every six months to keep the site active at http://www.meetup.com/saltlakecityspanish/. (Thanks, Nancy, for collecting donations from our members to pay the site dues). Nonetheless, this is a tremendous opportunity to support Spanish language learning here, and we all know that the more you give of yourself to others, what you get back in return is multiplied many times over. Total membership in our meetup site has nearly doubled in the last few years, and now stands at about 260 members.
Opportunity #2 – Scheduler for the Tuesday night Spanish group. There are normally at least 10 people in attendance at this meeting, called Conversational Spanish Immersion, and there are about 5 of us who take turns leading the discussion. However, to keep this group going strong, someone needs to take the lead on scheduling the discussion leader each week. On that note, please take a look at the following schedule and let me know what week you can lead the discussion during the next few months:
7/3/2012 - Mike
8/28/2012 - Nancy
I’ll still be around for a few months, but my weeks are filling up fast with move-related logistics, so I will likely miss several Tuesday night meetings in July and August. Please let me know soon how you would like to plug in to the Spanish speakers and learners community here.
Ha sido un placer.
P.S. Not only will I be continuing my Spanish journey in Flagstaff (and likely starting a meetup community), but I also hope to continue teaching English with the help of my newly purchased domain www.arizonaenglish.com. Abrazos.
