¡Feliz año Nuevo!

I will be leading a verb study class here in Flagstaff, AZ, starting this coming Tuesday, and I want to invite all of you in SLC to participate and study along with us.  The class is entitled, "Intermediate Spanish - Verb Study and Practice," and it will last for a period of 12 weeks (January 8, 2013 -- March 26, 2013).  We will be working our way through the workbook "Spanish Verb Tenses, Second Edition" by Dorothy Richmond, and hopefully we will get all the way through the imperfect subjunctive tense.

I wish that we could set it up so that we could have a Skype conference call during the class, but unfortunately I do not have a laptop and I don’t believe I can do a conference Skype call on my iPhone.  However, if one of you would like to log into Skype at the time of the class (6:30 PM – 7:30 PM Arizona Time) and enable others to conference with you (including me), let me know.  Otherwise, feel free to contact me via email at [address removed] to share updates, participate, ask any questions, etc.

This is not a beginner group, and it is assumed that each participant will already have a working knowledge of Spanish of at least the high beginner level (A2), and hopefully be at the intermediate level.  Of course, advanced students are welcome to participate.

The Textbook:  "Spanish Verb Tenses, Second Edition" by Dorothy Richmond, is available at Amazon.com for about $9 plus shipping, but you can probably purchase it as well at a local bookstore such as Barnes and Noble.  MAKE SURE THAT YOU BUY THE SECOND EDITION, it should say right on the front of the workbook “SECOND EDITION.”

Here is the tentative schedule for the class (tentative because I really have no idea at this point how much ground we will be able to cover):

January 8, 2013 – Present tense regular verbs, pages 1 - 17

January 15, 2013 – Ser and estar, hay, pages 19 - 33

January 22, 2013 – Tener, personal “a”, common irregular verbs, pages 35 - 55

January 29, 2013 – Saber and conocer, stem-changing verbs, irregulars, pages 57 - 85

February 5, 2013 – Reflexive verbs, gustar etc., present progressive, pages 87 - 106

February 12, 2013 – Preterite, pages 107 - 134

February 19, 2013 – Imperfect, pages 135 - 157

February 26, 2013 – Future, conditional, pages 159 - 177

March 5, 2013 – Present perfect, past perfect, pages 179 – 193

March 12, 2013 – Imperative, pages 197 - 209

March 19, 2013 – Present subjunctive, 211 - 231

March 26, 2013 – Imperfect subjunctive, 233 - 244

One last thing … the cost of the class for those here in Flagstaff will be $50, and all the money goes to support the Murdoch Community Center (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Murdoch-Community-Center/110871142263789) where we will hold the class.  In the 1920s the Murdoch Community Center was known as the Dunbar School, and it was dedicated to educating African American children in the south side of Flagstaff; today it is in an inter-generational and multicultural center reflecting the different cultures that are still represented in the south side of Flagstaff.  So, if you are feeling particularly generous, feel free to send a donation directly to the Murdoch Community Center to support their programs (or you can send it to me and I will make sure they receive your donation).

Let me know if you have any questions, y nos vemos pronto.
