Hi All,
For those of you coming out to the core basic classes - Now that we have the basics of our primitive camp set up, we'll move out from this base (figuratively speaking) into the other areas.
As a quick review of last week, for those who weren't there, we made a few changes to the camp, put in a fire area and reflector wall, and made the overall camp a little bit more comfortable.
What I told the last class was that from now on, we'll spend the first 15 -30 min or so of every core basic class making sure the camp is in order. The debris hut will usually need a little maintenance, we need to make sure the camp area is organized and neat, and also spend a few minutes sharpening our knives if they need it. If all that is already in order, then spend a few minutes practicing with your throwing sticks, or snares, bow drill fire (we will sometimes be starting a fire at the start of the class depending on what we're practicing), or any other skill(s) you want to practice.
If you weren't at last week's class, we made throwing sticks which we will use both for practice in throwing as well as (a little later) for some basic stick fighting techniques. I have sticks here for anyone who needs to catch up and make one, over the next few classes.
The next step in setting up our primitive camp is going to be getting familiar with our area. There are a lot of different things we'll be talking about, practicing and learning over the scout/spy module, but we'll start it off with awareness and stealth, which is one of my favorite classes to teach. This one is a lot of fun, and we'll be doing some challenging exercises with and against each other as part of it.
This will also lead into tactics as that portion of the combat medic module later... as the information that the scout gathers feeds into what we need to know for defense and security.
Hope to see you there.
Sam
