Sunset Cliffs - North | Evening Photography Workshop

Hosted by O'Neal Photographic Workshops - Join us for an evening photography workshop along San Diego's stunning Sunset Cliffs.

Join us for an evening photography workshop at the gorgeous Sunset Cliffs Natural Park. This stretch of shoreline is lined with sandstone cliffs, rocky crevices and fishers, and as it's name suggests, is a fantastic place for a Pacific sunset.

We will be shooting past sunset and will be required to use shutter speeds as low as 30 seconds. This means a tripod will be required. We have two spare tripods available to rent for $5. (contact Nick beforehand)

What You'll Learn:

Required:

  • Tripod (email Nick to rent a tripod for $5)
  • Lens of 50mm or wider
  • Camera with manual controls

Recommended but not Required:

Email or call us if you have any additional questions or need detail clarifications.

I always start to move every slider to extremes to see what the variation is and what i want to do with it. And just finetune your image there is no same method for every photo.

I'd be happy to do a private Lightroom class for you if you cannot make it to the scheduled class. For anyone that's interested!

Byron and I are in some serious traffic on 5 South, and we might be running late. We'll be sure to give some extra time for anyone else that may be caught in this traffic, as well.

What ND filters would you recommend for sunsets?

A reverse graduated neutral density filter is perfect for ocean sunsets.

Hi Nick and Byron. One of my sunset shoots was cancelled for tomorrow because of fog. Do you think it will be too foggy for this shoot? I'm driving from Murrieta. The weather conditions are so different here than SD. Want to make sure it's worth the 2 hour round trip drive. :-)

When it comes to nature photography, there is no way to predict what conditions will be like. Rough weather often makes the most dramatic photos. It seems to me, cancelling a workshop on a prediction is unprofessional, seeing as our best workshops have been during and immediately after rain.

Hi Nick, I would like to attend but need to know if this workshop requires scrambling across rocks? I'm not to good at balance stuff with camera gear. I hope there is a path. I will register on Friday depending on what your answer is. Also, a path to the beach or will be doing the cliffs only.

There's a slight hill to walk down about 10 feet to a level rock that we can stand on. Easy to navigate. More challenging options exist but aren't required.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
