Richard Dawkins & Lawrence Krauss at UCSD!

(It will be impractical to meetup beforehand or at the event - it's a huge venue - but come join us afterward at Rock Bottom!!  Please see the SDNAA "Post Dawkins/Krauss Revelry" event posted for 8:30 - just after this event.)

Also please note, you need to buy tickets!  Go here:

https://ucsdboxoffice.com/Online/seatSelect.asp?BOset::WSadmissions::admission::performance_id=05D9BA15-C9BD-4FAD-8626-25618418E62E

Dawkins and Krauss will be screening The Unbelievers, a road trip documentary that follows Dawkins and Krauss as they make stops around the world, from Australia to New York, to speak out for reason and science. There's some star power in the movie as well - Stephen Hawking, Stephen Colbert, Cameron Diaz, Sarah Silverman, Bill Pullman, Werner Herzog, and Bill Maher. The movie ends with The Reason Rally, an Washington DC event in 2012 that was the largest atheist rally in history.

DIRECTIONS AND PARKING:

Like most college campuses, parking and finding your way at UCSD can be confusing if you're not familiar with it. PLEASE don't set yourself up for a frustrating evening by assuming you'll be able to figure it out when you get there!

The closest parking is Hopkins Parking Structure; Google directions here.  http://goo.gl/maps/GUu1s

Parking is $8 and you pay at machines in the parking structure.

If you don't want to pay for parking, you can park for free along Torrey Pines Scenic Drive (off of Torrey Pines Road between the Salk Institute and Sanford Consortium.)  Be advised that from there to RIMAC Arena is an uphill walk of half a mile.

The event itself is at RIMAC Arena.  To see where it is relative to parking, search RIMAC at http://maps.ucsd.edu/ .  (North of the Library; on Hopkins Dr. just north of Voigt Dr.)

Great event! I always love hearing Dawkins speak. This is my first time seeing krauss speak, very entertaining.

Me too. I didn't go to the after party or I'm sure we would have talked.

Dumb question: I bought a floor seat a couple weeks ago. Was I supposed to get an email with my purchased ticket, or will it be available at the door under my name?

    April 2, 2014

    • Jay

I got it figured out. I checked "My account" on the ucsdboxoffice site, and printed out a copy, even though it should be at Will Call.

I'm planning on getting there a bit before 5 to find parking/Will call.

      April 2, 2014

  • Neil

Hey, I've got an extra ticket too. Floor seat, $40 is what I paid, but I'll take whatever I can get at this point. Any takers?

    April 2, 2014

    • Neil

Hey Jay, I'll be at Rimac just before 5 when doors open. Email me at [masked] and I'll give you my cell so we can meet up. Cool?

      April 2, 2014

    • Jay

      emailed. Thankz

Hi! I'm selling my ticket due to an imminent biz trip to China that exact week... bummer. I work in Sorrento Valley and have the ticket with me. Anyone interested?

    March 18, 2014

    • Tomas V.

The website only gave me the "floor" option. It's only one ticket.

      March 18, 2014

    • Jay

      I'll buy that ticket tomas

Can we buy tix there to avoid $12 in fees. Ridiculous

You can only avoid the $5 processing fee by going in person to the box office instead of ying online. You still have to pay the facility fee and operation fee regardless! I agree that it is ridiculous. Ticket prices are never what you end up paying.

Think it will be sold out if I pick it up tomorrow at box office?

Anyone know if they offer military discounts?

Will tickets be sold "at the door" or only at the Price Center Box Office that closes at 4 pm?

Does anyone know if there will be a book signing as well?

    March 31, 2014

  • Maga

Anyone knows if this is children friendly?

    March 17, 2014

    • Debbie A.

I'm going to say "no". This is first, a film about "adult" issues, followed by a serious Q & A with Richard Dawkins and Lawrence Krauss, whose comments are going to be directed at a college-educated audience. I just don't see how this would be fun for "kids". Now... if those kids are science buffs and can handle a 2 hour lecture... they might be captivated.

      2 · March 28, 2014

    • Victoria de la T.

I've seen the movie and its not directed towards children. Not that its inappropriate, but its definitely not engaging for kids, considering the Q&A

  • Jay

How come the online ticket site is not showing any tickets left? Sold out?

    March 30, 2014

    • Taylor

The "floor" seats are sold out. You have to choose "bleachers" under seating section. I suspect it's going to be first come seating anyways.

      March 30, 2014

  • Bo

    Is this event open seats?

    March 27, 2014

    • Jim

      Yes.

      March 27, 2014

  • Michael C.

To be clear: Dawkins and Krauss will be there.

    4 · March 17, 2014

  • Don

Hey, is Dawkins going to be there in person, or is this just an overpriced movie of him?

    1 · March 17, 2014

    • Hooman

      Good question.

      March 17, 2014

    • Debbie A.

He will be there with Lawrence Krauss! And yes, it cost a pretty penny... those UCSD folks also love to tack on the fees! There is a Q & A with Richard, Lawrence and the filmmakers.

      2 · March 17, 2014

  • Debbie A.

Tickets are $30 each, plus various fees. Richard Dawkins and Lawrence Krauss are concerned with there being a big enough crowd. They have asked that we promote the event as much as possible. So... please tweet if you can, and post on Facebook. Here is a link to the event: http://unbelieversmovie.com/tour.htm

Debbie, there's question as to if Richard Dawkins will be there in person?

      March 17, 2014

  • Daniel O. (aka P.

Tickets purchased and excited to be going.
Must just say, the UCSD ticketing costs are as bad, if not worse, as TicketMaster!!
    WTF?
    Handling Charge $5.00
    Operations Fee $3.00 $6.00
    RIMAC Arena Facility Fee $4.00

guess I am helping support higher education?

    March 17, 2014

    • Brett

I know, I was on the fence since it's $15 extra just for the fees and getting the ticket mailed. $15 is literally half the cost of ticket in the first place!

      March 17, 2014

    • NancY

No, your fees are *not* supporting higher education; they are supporting the vendors that the university has chosen to use to distribute the tickets. The university probably already sees less than half of the ticket price, and none of the fees.

      March 17, 2014

  • Hooman

Looking forward to it. If organizers or volunteers needed please let me know.
