I moved to San Diego from the midwest and thought for sure I'd be able to find out atheists. Yay internet!
Approximately 10 years ago, I realized I didn't care if god existed or not. My sense of morality is derived from my humanity and my sense of duty to my fellow human beings; it does not need a higher power to define what is good and what is not. There was quite the evolution from believer (I was raised in an evangelical household) to apatheist to atheist activist, but that story is best told over coffee. I have become active in the atheist movement as I have realized that not only do I not need god to do good, but neither does anyone else. In fact, theistic belief is often detrimental to the greater good.
Social activities (parties, bonfires, group outings to movies or dinners), intellectual ones (book discussions, lectures), community outreach
I am the friendly militant atheist in the neighborhood, and I'm pleased to meet you.
