Since a number of people seemed interested in the issue of non-religious morality, I would like to suggest "The Heart of Altruism" by Kristen Monroe for the next book discussion. For those who do not have the opportunity to read the book, a summary of her findings can be found in this article . (http://www.scienceblog.com/community/older/2004/9/20048072.shtml )
What I think is interesting about Kristen Monroe's findings is that they conform what a number of people at the last meeting said about being ethical because to do otherwise would lessen their connection with others.
If people want a more general discussion about altruism, I could also give links to a number of other articles, such as the one that showed that even infants can behave altruistically. (http://www.scienceblog.com/cms/chimps_babies_want_to_help_10140.html )P.S. Thanks to everyone for making the last discussion meeting so enjoyable!
