VOLUNTEERS NEEDED - EPIC BEER FESTIVAL SATURDAY NIGHT

Hey Beer Clubers,

Helping the craft beer community is one of our main goals in this group.  After 6 years, we have come a long way and helped a lot of breweries to be recognized, festivals to be runned and beers to be drunken.

Here is another opportunity to help!  The Epic Beer Festival is coming up and is in desparate need of volunteers.  Their first two sessions have filled up but their final session is still in need of help.

Epic heard of us from other festivals as having provided a large group of volunteers to help with pouring.  I have poured myself in the past and it can really be fun.  You get to meet a lot of new people, talk with some of the brewers first hand (this is my favorite part) and also hang out with others who love beer as much as we do.

Epic needs volunteer pourers for the March 16 Saturday session 7pm - 10pm.  For those of you who do volunteer, Epic is going to give you a ticket to next year's session (yeah I know it's a long way out, but its the best they can do right now.  Believe me, they wish they could do more).

Afterwards, I thought we could all meet up at a local craft beer bar downtown and catch up on our drinking. (maybe Knotty Barrel or The Neighborhood or ???)

Any help would be greatly appreciated by Epic.  Let's show them what we can do.  Please refer to the link below to sign up and for details on volunteering.

Cheers,

Karl

Sounds like it was more toil than fun. Glad I was not able to log in as required and will make sure not to go to their event. Sorry for all the poor souls that had an EPIC fail....Booo Epic.

I should comment though, as an attorney, I have some concerns for the organizers. They should have provided water for the volunteers. Also restroom breaks are required by California law (even volunteers are covered by labor laws). If they are going to require lifting and moving heavy cases of beer and the like, they should make sure that this is done by those physically a me to do it. Someone could easily be hurt and the event sued for the injuries.

I had a lot of fun. Met some cool people. Pouring so many beers was great.
Although, I went with my girlfriend and as you can guess she was constantly harassed by the drunk guys there. When we told security about it they just stood there and watched the guys instead of telling them to move along. It'd be one thing if it was just once, but it happened 3 times.
Great event, but up the security! Volunteers shouldn't have to put up with that.

I'd do it again. BUT, it did not start well. Four booths, one volunteer (me), lots of ice and beer to lug around. As a (very) senior citizen, its getting harder to do, plus standing for 5 hours is not a lot of fun. At first I worked the booth for a local brewer and not many takers = boring. But, then I traded with one of the pro bartenders and had a lot of fun pouring. My beard seemed to have its own fan club.

It was fun to pour for so many (largely) appreciative people. I had a great time chatting with the brewers as well. Rip Current represent! I'm pretty used to standing for extended periods of time so I was fine but if you're not like me then I can totally understand your complaints. Also, they totally charged us $10 for parking in the center itself. I already gave them 6 hours of free labor, I think taking care of parking fees for volunteers is the least they could've done. It was still a positive experience though.

Sounds as a great thing that I replied, yet didn't get that I needed to get the link onto the volunteer site. FYI there is parking back behind the center, the public lot back by Joe's Crap (sic) shack. After 6 it's free. The other better option with beer involved is to take the trolley down. Now if I could just figure out how not to get every fricken reminder from Meetup groups...Uhhggg

I felt like I was treated like a slave. We worked from 4pm till 10pm, I wanted to break for dinner but they said, "no you are not allowed to leave until the end". They should have mentioned it earlier. I was starving the whole night.

I showed up late due to some confusion on my end. I ended up selling t-shirts(they just put me where they needed me and the beer pouring positions were filled). Everyone at the t-shirt boothe was really nice, the drunk people I serviced were really fun too. Our booth closed down early and I got to do some tasting myself. I had a great time and felt useful.

Shit... I can't shake this cold. I hate to cancel, but I don't think people want virus in their beer

Guessing we're too late to volunteer? Just clicked on the Epicbeerfestival link, and it says there are no more opportunities - all filled. Let us know if it looks otherwise and we'll be there!

I volunteered at the one on the Broadway pier last year, and it was fun. (Brewer's guild fest I think) I'll be attending this beer fest, though, so maybe I'll see some of you pouring!
