Meet up and Drink Beer

Hey Clubbers!

This week's event is going to focus on helping a newer brewery in town.  What started out as a home brew and grow supply shop has now evolved into a full on brewery.  Thorn Street opened in the earlier part of this year but were unable to serve more than just samples.  Now they have access to serving FULL PINTS!!!  As much as we all like tasters, I am sure a lot of you prefer the feeling of a full pint of liquid magic in your hand while chattin it up with the other local beer clubers.

They have a killer selection of beers to pick from.  Ranging from Session IPA to Russion Imperial Stouts and everything in between, there is going to something for everyone to enjoy.

For this event Thorn street is going to give us $1 off all pints and $1 all flights.  This place already has great prices on beer as it is and now that they are giving us $1 off is pretty awesome!  Its just one of the many perks you all get for being in the SD Beer Club.

Here is the link to their website if you wanted to check them out a little more:

Come on out and join me along with many others in supporting and enjoying the beer at Thorn Street Brewery!

Cheers!

Karl

Sorry for the no show. Got there and didn't feel comfortable parking my truck in the area. I may be a little paranoid, but I have already had two vehicle break-ins in less than two years since I have been back in Cali. Maybe next time. -Tony

I goofed above. The larger issue, I think is why these mixed places failed while Stone, who also runs a restaurant with it's brewery does so well. Perhaps management. Or maybe Stone is so well known for it's beer, their menu doesn't have to be that terrific. I do think, Greg, that the writer does bring up something important for beer folks: Are we reaching a point of overkill in terms of consumption for these kinds of places without the following that Stone has garnered?

I used to think we were at the brink of maximum number of breweries in SD, but I've slowly been retracting that thought. So Stone aside, some places will fail mainly due to average beer. ECBC closed due financial ruin and poor, poor management from both the owners and the El Cajon government. Eastlake closed, most likely, due to being in the middle of nowhere after the housing crisis of 2008. Eastlake is still empty compared to when I lived there in the late 1990's. I went a few times and the place was empty. La Jolla closed due to poor management, waiters who knew nothing about beer, and the fact they hadn't brewed in two years on the premise. La Jolla tried to get people in the door with LivingSocial coupons, but eventually the writing was on the wall. Luckily it is reopening with brand new owners who, I believe, have history in the brewing industry. We can always continue this conversation over beer tonight. :-)

Looking forward to meeting you all! Recently transplanted back to the San Diego area after a stint in Colorado where I definitely partook in its wonderful microbreweries. Would love to trade stories and make new friends. -Tony
