Hey all – My first ride went well last night so let’s do it again. On feedback from a couple of members, this week’s ride is on Thursday and will start a little later. Beginning riders are welcome and encouraged and I will adjust the speed, distance and route as necessary.
The speed will be that of the slowest rider - which likely could be me :) If the group is large enough, I will either split the group or add a sweeper but no one will be left behind.
The distance is planned to be around 13 miles. Tonight’s ride will be to the base of Raptor Ridge via the Highland Valley singletrack and return via the Mule Hill / San Pasqual trail. From there we can ride further depending on the time and input from the group.
The route will start at the Sunset Dr. trailhead and ride the bike/foot path to the footbridge. At the footbridge we will cross to the South side of Lake Hodges and ride the bike path on the North side of Pomerado Rd. to Highland Valley Rd. and the trailhead near the intersection. At the end of the trail there will be about a mile or so of riding on paved road (Highland Valley Rd). We will then connect to the Mule Hill / San Pasqual trail and ride East to the base of Raptor Ridge. We will turnaround there and return to the parking lot via the Mule Hill / San Pasqual trail on the North side of the San Dieguito River valley past the strawberry fields. If the group, consensus is to ride further, we can continue riding to the Del Dios Community Park via the usual trails on the North side of Lake Hodges and return.
As always, bring your bike in good working condition, sufficient water, sufficient nutrition and a required helmet. For this ride, a taillight is also recommended for the paved portion of the route though the traffic is generally minimal there.
If the response is good, I hope to make this a regular, perhaps weekly event. The ride is designed as an option to the Los Penasquitos Canyon rides and for those who live further up in North County,
