Only one place in San Diego in my opinion - North of the Boarder in Sorrento Valley. Would not waste your time going anywhere else.

Like all the other posters, none of the shops we recommend are near you. Give your nearby to work and home shops a try. I go to performance in kearny mesa although I normally prefer mom and pops. Performance has several locations in SD county. Pros: long hours, good mechanic, nice sales staff, offers a discount service card and purchase discount card, stuff bought at one can be returned at other locations, has frequent sales.
chains I have NOT been impressed with bike department wise are sport chalet and REI.
Really, its about the sales staff, product selection and mechanics, not individual store. I'd decide based on that.
