Joshua Tree National Park - Full Day Trip - Saturday Oct 10 - Led By Dan Chusid

Spend a day with your fellow photographers, hiking and taking pictures in the beautiful desert landscape of Joshua Tree National Park. If you've never been there, you're in for a wonderful time.

It's been awhile since I've led any group trips but I'm looking forward to leading another expedition
out to amazing Joshua Tree National Park on October 10. This trip is always popular and you'll get a chance to get to know some of your fellow members during the drive up and back.

Carpooling matchups will be done at Grantville Trolley Station, so arrive early. We will go over last minute details and exchange cellphone numbers there.
________________________________________________

This event will include both San Diego Photography Meetup Groups so we expect a large turnout and your help in coordinating is highly desirable. If you would like to help (mainly on the day of the trip), please contact Dan.
_________________________________________________

We'll meet at the Grantville Trolley station at 8 am, arrange car pooling for everyone and then head out at 8:30 am SHARP. My contact number for this trip is [masked]. We will be leaving promptly at 8:30 so don't be late.

There are no facilities within the park (besides restrooms), so you must bring in whatever you need (you still can purchase any necessities in Joshua Tree before we enter the park).

BRING: snacks and water, an extra layer of clothing, comfortable shoes or boots, sunscreen, hat, etc. Also bring some CASH to pay your driver for fuel and to chip in for entrance fees and for food or necessities plus dinner.

Make sure you have spare batteries and extra digital cards or film. Tripods & Monopods are fine.
We'll stop in Joshua Tree or nearby before entering the park, to load up on anything you might need.
We'll also stop for lunch outside the park and to coordinate the entire group before entering.

NOTE: Cellphones most likely will NOT work within the park, so coordinate OUTSIDE the park.
Please bring your own maps for navigation as necessary. Each car usually receives a Joshua Tree map at the park entrance when you pay your entry fee.

This is a great trip! Don't miss out.
Our last one there was in May 2008. (Photos are in the group galleries if you dig a little).

Joshua Tree National Park lies 140 miles east of Los Angeles, 175 miles northeast of San Diego, and 215 miles southwest of Las Vegas. You can approach it from Interstate 10 and Hwy 62 (Twentynine Palms Highway).

We will be entering from the West Entrance Station (Park Blvd) which is located in the town of Joshua Tree. We'll all meet at the turn onto Park Blvd., just off Hwy 62, where we'll grab some lunch and supplies (if needed) and this is a good time to say hello to everyone else before we head into the park for the day. (NOTE: The actual park entrance is located five miles south on Park Boulevard).

IMPORTANT NOTE: DRIVERS WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR KEEPING TRACK OF THEIR PASSENGERS AND COORDINATING TIMES TO MEETUP WITH OTHERS AT LOCATIONS WITHIN THE PARK. WE WILL BE STAYING IN THE PARK UNTIL JUST AFTER SUNSET SO THAT EVERYONE HAS A CHANCE TO PHOTOGRAPH AT THAT TIME.

We'll also stop for a group dinner on the way home if everyone is agreeable to it.

Temps in October range from mid eighties during the day to mid 50's at night so it should be perfect.

It takes approximately 2 1/2 hours to get there. Potty stops will be arranged by your driver. Be nice to him or her and enjoy the ride!
Remember: Costs for fuel and entry fees are shared so bring cash.

Where exactly is this park is it still in San Diego County? I'm sorry it is a stupid question its just that I don't even live in the state yet so I don't know the areas very well at all. About how far would it be from the Carlsbad area?

The Park is located east of Los Angeles and it's a 2 1/2 hour drive from where we are gathering to carpool in San Diego. We hope to arrive at Joshua Tree (Park Blvd) around 11 AM. From there we'll get lunch and a potty stop in and wait for all the other drivers before heading into the park.

NOTE: We will be entering the park from Joshua Tree (Park Blvd) NOT the Twentynine Palms entry.

NOTE: Anyone that will be taking the Keys Ranch tour at 10AM, can meet up with us between 12:30 and 1:00PM at Barker Dam. You'll see it on your maps which you will receive when you enter the park. Barker Dam is located very close to Keys Ranch and we'll meet right near the actual dam.

The Keys Ranch tour sounds interesting. I will be doing that tour with Roy. Who else is going on that tour?

Sorry that Joseph's mirror came loose from his 5D at the beginning of the trip. That's a real bummer.

I had a great time on Saturday. I had not been to the places inside the park that we went to so it was really an excellent trip.
