A holiday-driven change in plans forced me to miss this. I was looking forward to it, but hopefully I can catch the next one if it ends up being scheduled again in the spring as suggested below.

Thanks Joe and Dan, enjoyed the cool historical building tour and the nice write up about Irving John Gill and Alonzo Horton.

I am glad that everyone enjoyed themselves. I did too. Hopefully we could do this in the spring and would be able to get into a few more buildings.

Terrific outing and walk through the downtown area. Though we didn't get to see everything, we did cover a lot of ground, especially those that stayed till the end. Thank you Joe for Hosting.

I went back to get my car in Horton Plaza when we finished up and forgot to get my ticket validated. As I reached the booth, I realized my mistake but couldn't back up. The woman in the booth wanted $24 for my 3 hours. Long story made short...I got out without paying :o)

It was nice to be with such an enthusiastic group! Thank you Dan for setting this up and thanks to Joe for sharing the history.

Is anyone bringing a tripod? I wanted to try to do some shots with a B+W 10 stop filter.

Just checked my weather report app for tomorrow and we should be fine. Only a 10% chance of rain from 12:00 till 5:00. See you there!

The plan is to split into groups after we've all had a chance to warm up our lenses. • Don't be afraid to wear your hair down and make a fashion statement.

    WOW...51 people attending.

    hahahahahahahahaha

This is gonna rival Zombie Walk at ComicCon.

Only...more scary (yeah...I've seen some of you folks and ok...I've looked in the mirror)

So where are we ALL eating afterwards???

I bet they tack on a mandatory 20% tip for a really LARGE table.

    LOL

Are you ready to be a step-up volunteer Roy? Maybe lead a small contingent on Sat?

I work in the Spreckels Building. I could try to get us into the theater (try). The issue for many buildings will be the number of people in the group. Some buildings may be hesitant to allow a large group into the building. I Love downtown and think this is a great idea. Weekend vs. weekday could impact entry as well as the number of people DT. I also think the lighting is near best in the afternoon, evening. In my humble opinion. I would be willing to cohost if you need and like. Let me know.

Just a follow up note... The Nutcracker is doing two shows on the 15th so we are out, this time. Next time we are welcome with a tour back stage to boot.

Anybody happens to be going to the PPS Cabrillo Monument Meetup later that day? If so, would I be able to get a ride with you? Thanks! :)

Since we have over 30 people signed up for this 'event' and no one to host it, I guess I'll need to step in to take the lead. I would also appreciate some assistants helping out. • I'm thinking a Saturday (Dec 15) would work best and 1:00 PM as the starting time. Does this work for everyone? This would be a roughly 2-3 hour walk around downtown. I am posting the date & meetup location (here) on the event page: MEET AT 12:45 IN FRONT OF HORTON PLAZA - BROADWAY & 4th AVE. We can break up into smaller groups and 'leaders' can be assigned. That way the group will not be too large and intimidating. • Sound OK? • Any questions?

I am still willing to lead. Let me know what I can do.

      December 5, 2012

    • Dan C.

Find me there James and I will designate you (plus Joseph and potentially others who want to lead) to leader status.

Sounds awesome Dan! I would like to volunteer to be an assistant if you haven't gotten any yet.

If you're back in town Joseph, I can certainly use your help as we get closer to the date.

      December 1, 2012

    • Joseph B.

Yup. I am back in town for a few months because of things that came up while I was in Portland.

How long will the tour be, or did I miss that info?

    December 1, 2012

    • Dan C.

As I wrote above, it should be about 2-3 hours, maybe longer if we're having fun :o)

We did a group night shoot a two years ago in the downtown area. Here are photos and you can click on the header to see the event page: http://www.meetup.com/san-diego-photography-meetup/photos/1086738/

It's so difficult to shoot alone at times (safety) so this would be good way of meeting fellow photographers!

Melissa - I'd be interested in your thoughts on that one too - I'm interested in learning about candid photography, and these folks as a subject could truly be interesting (and heartbreaking at the same time).

As compelling as homeless photos are, not very many homeless want their photos taken. Those that are willing may want some form of payment. A group of photographers will appear (to some) as exploitin--regardless of the intentions.

What I'd recommend, is to set up the date and time with your friend. Post onto the site, and ensure that the group travels as a group (may want to set a limit) to ensure the host is not overwhelmed, and give a general map as to where the tour will start and end, and what sites the group will see along the way. Kinda like what'd be in a brochure for any city visit - this will just be more focused, and somewhat time driven. Perhaps two hosts could help cover a potentially large group.

Very interested. What is thevfacebook page?

Pick a date, time and meetup location. I can designate you as the host.
