Adam Avenue Street Fair (All Day Saturday & Sunday)

The two-day festival will feature music on seven stages, with more than 90 acts scheduled to perform. More than 300 food and arts-and-crafts vendors will be featured, along with a carnival and several 21-and-up beer gardens.

Reunion performances by San Diego roots-rock favorites The Paladins and the raucous duo of Mojo Nixon & Skid Roper are just some of the musical treats in store at the 31st annualAdams Avenue Street Fair.Admission to the free two-day event, as always, is free and open to all ages.

Also in store for the festival, which will be held on the streets of Normal Heights on Sept. 29 and 30, are such diverse acts as bluesy guitar ace Coco Montoya, fabled North County singer-songwriter Jack Tempchin (who has penned several of The Eagles' best-known songs), local indie-rock favorites Cuckoo Chaos, veteran Los Angeles band Tierra, the 13-piece Puerto Rican music group Plena Libre, country troubadour Chuck Cannon, blues dynamo Junior Watson and Kofi Baker's Cream Experience, a Cream tribute band led by the son of Cream drummer Ginger Baker, whose percussive talents surpass those of his famous father.

The lineup also includes the current incarnation of Strawberry Alarm Clock, best known for its quasi-psychedelic 1967 hit, "Incense and Peppermints," less so for such subsequent songs as "Sit with the Guru" and "Rainy Day Mushroom Pillow." The band's lineup, then and now, includes flutist Steve Bartek, who went on to become a member of Oingo Boingo and has since worked as the orchestrator for various film scores by former Oingo Boingo singer Danny Elfman. (Original Strawberry Alarm Clock guitarist Ed King went on to become a charter member of Lynyrd Skynyrd.)

The Paladins have regrouped several times since their heyday in the 1980s and '90s. Nixon and Roper, who improbably became MTV favorites for a heady moment in the 1980s, went their separate ways in 1989. Expect the duo's trademark musical mayhem to be amply displayed when they re-team, along with such favorites as the beleaguered-new-parent anthem "I'm Living with the Three-Foot Anti-Christ" and "Elvis Is Everywhere."
