Hey gang! I'm really excited to announce that we finally have a new home for our Salsa Casino & Rueda Classes! This Sunday we will have our weekly class at Synergy Dance Zone on Miramar Road. Synergy is a sweet dance studio that offers everything we need for our class, great floor, lots of space to do our ruedas, and great facilities for the students to get ready before class. We start at Synergy this Sunday at 5pm with class for First timers and Beginners (two separate classes), and at 6pm for Intermediates. Class is still $10.00 per hour and is on a drop-in basis. Cash. Spread the word to everyone and don't miss class this Sunday!

The best way to get to the studio is via I-805 either north if you're coming from central or south San Diego, or North County.

Little Italy Dancing Under the Stars is Tomorrow!

And tomorrow is our favorite outdoor salsa dancing extravaganza with Manny Cepeda and his live trio in Little Italy at Plaza Basilone. Music and dancing starts at 7:00pm and goes until 9:30pm so come down and let's shake Little Italy up, salsa style!

Salsa Pechanga has a new format for November and December.

Starting this Sunday- See L.A.’s hottest all singing, all Dancing Male revue "Banda Del Swing". Not only can these Salseros sing, but they dance as well.

Here’s the schedule.

7:00pm to 8:00pm - Salsa and Bachata Lessons by Award winning instructors of San Diego’s Largest On going salsa class for 8 yrs. Tony and Maria will teach a mixed level class from beginners to Novice. These classes are FREE!

Oye Salseros! We are back this Sunday at 5pm for our weekly Salsa & Rueda de Casino class. We will have 3 class levels at 5pm: a class for first timers and basic beginners, a Beginner class & an Intermediate class. Come out and get ready for lots of dancing dancing dancing! Class is $10, so don't miss it!
Casino & Rueda de Casino is salsa dancing Cuban-style, a combination of Afro-Cuban rhythms and Cuban Son, the heart of salsa music from the birthplace of it all, Cuba! Casino can be danced within a couple, but it also incorporates the Rueda, a social form of dancing where multiple couples dance together in a circle, following calls from the Rueda leader. It’s social dancing at its best and tons of fun!

So join us this Sunday for lots and lots of dancing to great salsa music! See you there!

If you were lucky enough to the see the documentary on KPBS that just aired tonight tuesday Oct. 12th.
YOu saw a huge piece of salsa history. Tito Puente composed and wrote almost 500 songs. Many of which we dance to every week. I want to challenge every salsero in the community to learn as much as you can about the history of Salsa Music. It will take you a lifetime to learn how we got this incredible music.

If you are not an academic type and don't want to read about salsa music but you want to experience it. The get your salsa self to Pechanga Casino and Resort this sunday to see the grand daughter of the King of Latin Music.
Janeen Puente has been singing and dancing since the age of four. Born into a family of performers, Janeen is the grandaughter of the late legendary music icon Tito Puente. Her father, Ron Puente, a prodigious musician and uncle Tito Puente jr. both carry the musical torch by continuing in their father's footsteps with the Tito Puente Orchestra and the Tito Puente jr. Orchestras, respectively. The day Janeen first picked up a microphone, it was obvious that her contribution to the legacy would be singing. Raised in New York City, Janeen honed her performance in NYC nightclubs performing her brand of NY style dance music with Latin rhythms and influences. She has also had the great privilege of performing on stage with her grandfather on many occasions. In NY Janeen was also actively involved in various charitable events including donating her time and performances to such causes as Breast Cancer Awareness and UNICEF. Additionally, Janeen had the unique experience of growing up around and closely watching such great singers such as Celia Cruz and La India perform with her grandfather. “I remember being so fascinated with the singers, particularly Celia Cruz, that I would go home and mimic her”. Her dream was to one day perform in front of her own big band and now that time has finally come. The Janeen Puente Orchestra was born of her chance meeting with Eddie Del Rios- an accomplished percussionist who has played with Johnny Polanco y Su Conjunto Amistad and the Tito Puente Jr. Orchestra among many others. Also from New York City, Eddie had the same vision of bringing a fresh brand of salsa to LA. Having played all over the world including Spain, Holland, Canada, Hawaii, Italy, Singapore, England, Costa Rica, China and Japan, Eddie has played for some of the biggest names in salsa from New York to Puerto Rico, and has even opened up for Prince. He also endorses Audix microphones and Volcanic Percussion. Says Eddie, who has also played professionally in the Los Angeles salsa scene for years, “There are so many amazing dance songs that were once performed by the great Latin icons of our time-Tito Puente, Celia Cruz, La Lupe- that have been forgotten- and I felt that the time had come for these songs to be brought back to life”. Also noting that there are very few female singers fronting salsa bands, Janeen and Eddie saw this as opportunity to bring out a whole new repertoire of untouched songs that have been recorded and performed by female singers. Pooling together some of Los Angeles’ finest musicians, and under the leadership of Eddie Del Rios and the distinctive voice of Janeen Puente, The Janeen Puente Orchestra is already captivating the LA salsa scene having appeared on LA’s 1 early morning show “Primera Edicion”/Univision and featured on KXLU’s “Alma Del Barrio”.
