Free. AR: We'll look at consumer-level augmented reality, including Layar and Aurasma, which we are using for an upcoming social-media mobile-app.
Required: In order to participate in the hands-on part of this tutorial, you should bring a laptop (to be able to program or run the software; tablets don't usually allow for this). Without this, you can still observe and get a lot out of the overview, but be aware that you'll miss out on the knowledge-building.
More information and discussion:
Tech Tutorial is a monthly class focusing on one of the following topics: NextWeb ( Web design), 3d ( digital 3d models), Visualization ( Processing, Canvas, etc), Microprocessors ( Arduino, electronics), or AR ( augmented reality). On 1st Sundays we meet at the Del Mar Pannikin, and the following week we repeat at Maker Place near USC.
The same tutorial is taught on 1st and 2nd Sundays of the month, with slight differences: the 1st tutorial is a more casual 'first view' in a more casual coffee-shop context, while the 2nd is the final/refined version held in a more formal classroom context. You can also join us at our 3rd-Sunday Project Workshops, where you can apply your new skills to develop an augmented-reality visitors map/game! (or help build iTunes/YouTube podcasts, mobile Web sites and apps, the Chapter Web site, the Chapter newsletter...)
