Meeting Notes: Blender Developer Meeting
Sergey taking out old compositor for color management consistency.
Ton Roosendaal: will do some "file flag" cleaning - for all the different .blend options we support now. It then will allow a formal definition of a 'template blend' too, which is like startup blend, but then you can have many.
[FINALLY! THIS IS A LONG AWAITED FEATURE BY MANY. OUR WORKING GROUP IS ALSO WORKING ON SOME TEMPLATE STYLE IMPROVMENTS SO STAY TUNED]
Ton has WIP code for "matcap" in Blender (sphere textures mapped on normals), this can provide a much faster and good looking GLSL shader option for "Solid" draw mode, especially useful for modeling and sculpt. He is still working on integrating the code nicely and with sculpt. UI control will follow.
Sergey will work on movie support in Cycles, and clean up color/alpha operations in compositor (to prevent premultiplied colors messing up too easily).
New splash committee will be appointed by the old one. Proposal is that they select an artist or artwork for 2.66 splash, but only when the .blend file gets published (Under CC-by-sa or CC-by).[MORE INFO ON THIS ANOTHER TIME. IT WOULD BE GREAT FOR AN L.A. ARTIST TO BE FEATURED WITH A SPLASH. PROPS TO MIKE FROM OUR GROUP BTW FOR HIS ROAD PICTURE MAKING BLENDERNATION AS A HEADER BANNER]
Sergej Reich finished his Bullet rigid project just in time...!
Good end-user docs for Rigid Body are coming, but we can get[sic:use] help! Contact Sergej. We should also publish the roadmap (features on the todo) for it.
[THIS IS AN EXCELLENT OPPORTUNITY FOR SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA POWER USERS TO HELP OUT]
Freestyle and PyNodes are still 2.67 targets
Lukas Toenne has a new doc for PynNodes, an overview of the DNA/BKE structure, including the major changes and couple of remarks: http://wiki.blender.o... Rounded vertex-only bevel fix is coming soon, A complete new modifier implementation for Beveling becomes a 2.67 target.
Ton will free up time to port over pie-menus to Blender for 2.67, using the Python add-on as being tested now.
[YES! PIE MENUS ARE COMING TO BLENDER! MORE ON THIS SOON. THIS IS ANOTHER GREAT AREA FOR US TO GIVE GOOD FEEDBACK]
NOTE-- these emails are to encourage and make easier your participation in the development, testing and use of Blender's cutting edge new and/or improved features. They are most relative to the development of the next official release, which is 2.66. Thanks again on all the good and positive feedback on these posts. A more formal way of getting the LA group this information is coming soon.
Wiki page for the 2.66 targets and release cycle
BCON REMINDER-- Bcon1 follows every official release for 2 to 3 weeks. This is the best time to get features included in the next release. So all you power/pro users can come to the Sunday dev meeting and speak up or post on bf-commiters mailing list to press for your feature requests or to support a code branch being merged. It is now Bcon2, the merging and fixing stage.
TESTERS REMINDER-- there is always need for testers so please take advantage of this email to test new features and give feedback
RELEASE NOTES/DOCUMENTATION LINKS--
Offical Release Logs (good for new feature docs, no 2.66 yet)

Patch Tracker(somewhat tedious to peruse but can be informative)
Note- use these links above to research recent features and new features before they get officially released, documented and demonstrated
Graphic All or SVN/daily builbot/special builds will be necessary to access most of these features in their latest development state.
