Lawrence Welk Talus Caves

I've been numerous times but not with anyone adventurous as me. Anyone interested in finding "the demon room" one of these Sundays. Easy to explore...

Glad to see this is a destination. I'm hoping to meet at the trailhead, but that's dependent upon going to bed and then getting up early enough. Hope to make it!

    Hi guys,
I've never been there before. Are the caves high enough to walk around all the time or should I bring anything special like knee pads, helmets and gloves.

    August 16, 2013

    • Casey

There are rooms to stand in. Lots of crawling and crouching. We'll explore the biggest section I know of.

Great, I'll be waiting at the trailhead since I live close the caves. I was there long ago but did not have directions so didn't find much. However, I recall at that time, there was a TON of poison oak in that area.

The Meetup place at 10:00am is in Mission Hills; by the airport and downtown. but if you'd like to just meetup at the Caves we'll meet at the trail head at 10:45. The approximate address is 28291 Meadow Glen Way Hidden Meadows CA 92026

Lets meetup! Grab some coffee and head to the caves. Id suggest clothes you don't mind getting dirty and a flashlight or two. If anyone is interested I'd be willing to stop and lead a group to the Black Mountain Mine on the way back!

Also note that some sections of the cave WILL get you wet (depending on what paths you want to explore) so bring a extra change of socks/shoes. I remember last time I went, even though it hadn't rained in weeks, I had to trudge through 2-3' deep water to get out one of the exits.

Is the entrance to the Demon Room labeled or marked or anything. There's a pretty amazing room in the entrance dubbed "The Butt Hole" it's complete with underground waterfall!!!

Maybe the room I'm thinking of is a different one, it has a face spray painted on it and a small waterfall

I won't be making it on this trip but have been once before. The demon room is nearer the top of the hill, about 30ft underground. Also there is a very large boulder at the bottom of the hill next to the dirt road that has Indian petroglyphs on its overhanging face.

There are a ton of entrances to a lot of diffrent sections of caves. The section hidden San Diego talks about is just a small portion. There is so much to see there we won't get to explore it all. I've gone a bunch of times and find new rooms or entrances every time I go! There's plenty of stuff to explore us you're claustrophobic too!

So it looks like there is some interest in the LWTC... I'm free to lead this coming Sunday or Monday. Lets bring some trash bags so we'll be welcomed by the land owner!

The reason those caves are still nice is because they are much harder to find. Some things are better left a secret. Chances are the few people actually willing to go out and search for these other caves are not the type to deface them. But leading just anyone to a place like Thunder Canyon or Midnight Creek is not very responsible if you want them to stay as nice as they are. I would like to check out Cahuilla Creek some time though...

I would recommend Thunder Canyon, Midnight Creek, or Cahuilla Creek Cave. All three are rarely visited and are not tagged up like Lawrence Welks. I am studying for the bar exam but I should have some time to take a group to any of the three.

i'm close and caves give me a little bit of the pucker. Sounds like fun.

Just went there today. What Casey says about the owner is true. He is totally cool with people exploring the caves, just asks that you respect the land and don't make trouble.

I'd be willing to go again for sure as I didn't find the "demon cave" despite spending a few hours down there.

Met some awesome travelers through this website and we checked out the caves this past weekend. The road you use to walk in on up in the housing development is now actual private property complete with guard dog! We ended up sweet talking the old man that looked like Santa Claus in long underwear to let us pass through. A rough old guy but kind hearted I'd say. We had a blast. Deffinently got the furthest in there I've ever been. Anyways just thought I'd give the heads up about the new land owner. Keep exploring!
