JOSHUA TREE TRIP !

Joshua Tree Trip May 18th, 2013

Let’s meetup at the Grantville Trolley station at 7:00am to carpool out to the park. We should plan on leaving by 7:30.

Passengers should plan on splitting the cost of fuel, so each vehicle should be as full as comfortable. It is usually most efficient if we all start signing up for car teams on the meetup discussion for this group prior to the event date, so when we arrive at the trolley station we just have to find the car we’ve signed up for.

There are great points throughout the park to discover on foot after we park at several parking lots within the park.

Bring some water to stay hydrated and after our day in the park we should plan on meeting at a local eatery in 29 palms for dinner and discussion before we head back to San Diego.

Please remember to post if you have a vehicle or if you need transportation in the discussion section of this event.

Thanks Tara & Matra for saying YES, and making the trip to

It turns out that the car blew a 120-amp fuse! I had no idea that cars had 120-amp fuses! That's more amps than my house has! Hope everyone had fun. Sorry I missed the trip.

Hey, Folks. That car is dead this morning and it doesn't appear to be the battery, something more serious. Since I need it for work tomorrow, I need to pull out of this trip and get the car working. My apologies.

Since I will most likely not be going, it looks like everyone can fit in Tara's car. If you have any questions on where to go and what to see, just post your questions here. Many of us have been to JT numerous times and can share our expertise.

I have a National Parks pass so if I car pool with anyone we will not need to pay the admission fee.

I won't know about driving or needing a ride until closer to May 18.

I just spoke to Park Rangers at Joshua Tree and they advised that we should have a great time on May 18th. They said that even though some sites are closed there are still a multitude that have not been affected. I would like to reserve a tour of the Keys Ranch as soon as transportation has been sewed up since I haven't done that before on the Joshua Tree trips. The 1pm trip would probably fit our time schedule best.
BTW - I would like to be a passenger with someone else - Bonus I act as a pretty good navigator.
    Talk to yall soon.

I did the Keys Ranch Tour in November and it was great! Even nicer that we had our own personal tour, since the other folks who were signed up, didn't show!

Graffiti Forces Closure of Joshua Tree Park Sites.

Rangers said they've found graffiti spray painted on 17 sites, including the famous rock formations and historic Native American sites, at the Southern California park's Rattlesnake Canyon.

Lame. I hope they catch the offenders.

Barker Dam is included in the list of closed areas. "National Parks officials said the graffiti started with just a few markings, but quickly spread. They blame vandals who posted pictures of their handiwork on social media sites such as Facebook, which enticed others to the same spot and leave their own illicit marks."
