Mission Bay SOCIAL BONFIRE! Solstice Celebration POTLUCK!

RSVPs are OPEN up to 80!  Meetup sometimes doesn't show "# spots left" anymore.

Another very popular MBay DeAnza Cove Potluck BONFIRE SOCIAL! Celebrate Winter Solstice with a bunch of mature explorers, "Friends", Druids, Active 40+ Singles & Friends and also some members from three other fun social Meetup groups tonight.

Grab your beachchairs, nice potluck dish and utensil for it, your sodas in a cooler, a warm jacket, flashlights/lantern and some firewood appreciated if you can!

Main dishes or big entrees are best to feed this large potluck group, bring something that YOU would like to eat, so then you know it will be there.

Please specify what you are bringing in your rsvp, you can update it later in comments here. If you need ideas, plan something YOU like or stop by Costco and pickup a party tray or their spiral turkey sandwiches.

Maybe someone can bring a large pot of very hot water for instant coffee, chocolate or hot cider packets and hot beverage cups.

Dress appropriate for the weather. Have warm jacket/warm clothes in your car just in case! Maybe a hat and gloves as well.

Looks like a clear sunny afternoon today for this big BONFIRE POTLUCK!

No alcohol (or glass) is officially allowed on City beaches, they sometimes come around and check.

Get on down to De Anza Cove for the TGIF Bonfire Social Potluck with many mature convivial socializers, 40+ "Friends" and a bunch of new potential members from four other convivial active Meetup groups.

Plan your pre-cooked dish unless you also bring a small BBQ for it, or someone offers to bring a BBQ which would then be posted here in comments if so. Take a look at comments to see if anyone is bringing a BBQ.

Potluck begins about 4:00pm but come as early as you want for best parking, help setup or hold the fire ring and maybe walk a few miles along beautiful Mission Bay while there.  Have you seen the new pedestrian/bike bridge to Campland?

I will go very early and try to get the furthest West double picnic tables and closest fire ring. ( The Sun sets in the West, for non-scouts ) Walk the sidewalk to the NorthWest end and then look for us at the picnic tables and fire ring nearby.

One person mentioned group games, if you have some, bring them on down very early and maybe play a little before sunset. Things like Bocce ball, Bolo stands, badminton or Frisbee (lightweight models). Sun sets about 4:30pm now.

Notice: the powerful lawn sprinklers may possibly come on after 9pm and soak the grass and picnic tables area, so let's put all leftover food and dishes/utensils/bags away in cars well before then and move everyone's chairs over to the sand close around the fire-ring after dark!

The sprinklers did NOT come on at all last time, no guarantees this month.

Hanging around the picnic tables/grassy area after 9pm could possibly get you a bit soaked! Only fun if it has been a very hot day!

Coming North on H-5 take Clairemont Dr offramp and turn West, crossing 5 and then turn right onto E Mission Bay Dr. Go to De Anza Rd.

Coming South on H-5 you may take Balboa/MBayDr offramp( or if very heavy traffic at Balboa ramp just continue South on 5 to Clairemont Dr ), proceed straight on Mission Bay Dr thru six stoplights before taking sharp right turn from right lane just before entering 5 South again, West into N Mission Bay Dr, turn right at stopsign and go North to De Anza Rd.

IF you miss that sharp right turn and end up on H-5 South, you can still take the next offramp Clairemont Dr and get on E Mission Bay Dr going North along there to De Anza Rd.

^^ Our Silver Star mylar balloon to look for on umbrella top, or hanging on chairback after dark by our Westmost firering.

Most people seemed to have a good time socializing and stuffing themselves with all that good food. Thanks for the great dishes and many sandwiches some brought!
And those that actually brought wood, especially Jim, and toan who brought some real trunk-size logs and set some onto the fire, making it ever larger over time. We had plenty of wood to keep us warm next to that firering.

We had a nice crowd around the fire and some actually cooked hotdogs on it and some took pictures, some sat a little too close...

Looks like will be a clear sunny afternoon today for this big BONFIRE POTLUCK! Get your nice potluck dish ready, bring warm clothes and jackets for the colder evening, and some wood for the bonfire if you can! I will have a CD boombox down there on 6 D cells if most people want some celebration music for dancing. Have any good party music CDs you want to play? Or some fresh D cells in case mine drain?

Remember to dress warm for the cold evening, the bonfire can only roast one side at a time.

Several people have said they are bringing chicken something, and some main dish. There are still many unk or blanks so please get some ideas and post your dish idea in your comments here soon. Entrees are best for this large group. This POTLUCK bonfire is less than two weeks away now!

IF you still need ideas on what to bring, those Costco spiral turkey sandwiches go well, also any of their party trays of fruit or veges and any type of finger food with many small portions. A few may even bring warm pizzas at the last minute so they get there hot.

There is usually some old logs listed on Craigslist almost daily so keep watch for some in your neighborhood for our bonfire!

Several members object to burning pallets, so let's stick to dry logs and construction lumber cutoffs if we can, thanks.
