Oscar Nominee "NO" @Hillcrest Cinemas

Synopsis (From Landmark Theatres):
In director Pablo Larraín's political drama NO, Chilean military dictator Augusto Pinochet is forced by international pressure to call a plebiscite on his presidency in 1988. The country will vote YES or NO to Pinochet extending his rule for another eight years. Opposition leaders for the NO camp persuade a brash young advertising executive, Rene Saavedra (Gael García Bernal), to spearhead their campaign. Against all odds, with scant resources and under scrutiny by the despot's minions, Saavedra and his team devise an audacious plan to win the election and set Chile free. Official Selection at the Toronto International and Telluride Film Festivals, and Academy Award nominee for Best Foreign Language Film. (Fully subtitled).

I thought so too. I wish we could have spoken more about it as a group afterwards. The night just went too quick. I'm looking forward to the next one.

I enjoyed the film overall. I found the picture quality interesting. The director definitely filtered it as if were watching it like on an analog television. I also cracked up about seeing all the late 80's electronic equipment. One thing I did take away that's still current is how we value negative versus positive campaigning.

I did enjoy as always visiting before hand, sorry I didn't hang around afterward.

I tried to warm to this film almost for its entire length, but it didn't work for me at all.

Hi Susan. Thank you for your comment and concern. Michael, is looking for someone to takeover Indie Movies Hillcrest. If there would be a merge it would be under San Diego Art House which eliminates the Hillcrest exclusivity. I want to continue to leave all avenues for venues open which include in the future Arclight, Digiplex (Mission Valley) and the North County.

      Thanks for clarifying, Eric!

Eric. if the groups merge, I hope it does not become an exclusively Hillcrest group, because I live too far away to get there often

The Indie Film Hillcrest group will be there. Most likely discuss merger/takeover. Gosh I sound like a Hedge Fund manager or Venture Capitalist. Yikes. 8-)
