January 15th, Thursday Movie: Revolutionary Road Meetup Time: 7:00pm Movie Showtime: 7:30pm Landmark's Hillcrest Cinemas [masked]th Avenue San Diego, CA 92103 (619)[masked] Host: Eric aka Eric31 (619)[masked] (Mobile) [masked] How about another Kate Winslet movie in one month??? Let's check out her latest directed by her real life husband Sam Mendes. We will play it by ear on a post movie discussion.
Synopsis: Adapted from the revealing novel by Richard Yates, Revolutionary Road is an incisive portrait of an American marriage seen through the eyes of Frank Wheeler (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his wife April (Kate Winslet). The couple proudly declare their independence from the suburban inertia that surrounds them and determine never to be trapped by the social confines of their era. Yet for all their charm, beauty and irreverence, the Wheelers find themselves becoming exactly what they didn't expect: a good man with a meaningless job whose nerve has gone missing; a less-than-happy homemaker starving for fulfillment and passion; an American family with lost dreams, like any other. Yates' story of 1950s America poses a question that has been reverberating through modern relationships ever since: Can two people break away from the ordinary without breaking apart? Co-starring Kathy Bates, Kathryn Hahn, Michael Shannon and David Harbour. Directed by Sam Mendes (American Beauty).

The movie was devastating. That's the only word I can use. The acting was superb, the story was interesting and a different love story than I've seen, and the conclusion: heartbreaking and devastating. And Kathy Bates had a nice supporting role, almost didn't recognize her at first.

Even though it was a downer as expected it was an absolutely fascinating one. I never thought I would even chuckle at points during this movie but I did with nervous admiration. I was little biased thinking director Sam Mendes would play favorites by casting his wife Kate Winslet. The truth is...he was right. Kate was amazing...more so than Leonardo. Excellent Movie!!

Painful to watch, I thought this movie was artfully realized and powerful. The acting was sensitive and the camera framing very interesting to me. I give it a must see rating, but on a night that you don't want to be uplifted!

Was thinking about that scene where it shows her feet coming down the stairs....Each step so meticulous and similar, her heel perfectly aligned with the back of the step....wondered why they showed it like that...Thought perhaps it was another demonstration of the power of the pull of comformity, and how constrained we can be, even in circumstances like those, to meet societal, or perhaps our own, expectations of how we should be or act.....
Enjoyed the movie despite the depressing nature of it......

Thank you, Eric, for organizing this event. I enjoyed meeting the people in our group. I didn't care for the movie much but I thought that Kate Winslet did an admirable job in the film. My rating is for the film.

There's a parking garage underneath the little shopping mall that the theater is in- the movie theater will validate for you. It's super easy.

Does anyone have any advice about parking?
