This hike was scheduled last month, but cancelled due to RAIN. Let's hope and pray for better weather in February!
This is an easy-to-moderate hike of about six miles, more or less, along Valley View Truck Trail through Crestridge Ecological Reserve. See pp. [masked] in the latest edition of Afoot and Afield in San Diego County. The views are outstanding.
The Earth Discovery Institute manages this reserve and several others. Information about Crestridge is available at their website: www.earthdiscovery.org.
Leashed dogs are allowed.
We'll meet at the signed trailhead at the end of Horsemill Rd. in Crest (Thomas 1253 A1, No[masked]' Wo[masked]').
SUGGESTED ROUTE from San Diego: Take Interstate 8 east and exit at Greenfield Drive. Turn right (south) on Greenfield Drive, turn left on La Cresta Road. Go about three miles uphill and at the top of the hill veer left on Mountain View Road. Follow Mountain View Road about 1.5 miles and turn left on Horsemill Road. Follow Horsemill Road to its end at the reserve entrance.
The nominal starting time is 10:00 AM. I will be at the parking area by 9:30, and at 10:15 we will hit the trail. We should return to the parking area between 1:30 PM and 2:30 PM.
Call[masked] for the latest weather information or check your favorite weather page on the Internet. (I like www.weather.com.) Wear good hiking shoes and suitable clothing and take lunch, water and sun protection. Take a camera if you wish. Call or send E-mail if you have questions.
RAIN? Heavy rain will cancel the hike. If there is only a little rain, we may still hike. In doubtful cases, I will wait at the trailhead. You must decide whether the weather is tolerable and take appropriate protective clothing. If anyone else shows up, we will hike.
