Join me for a brisk walk (8 miles) on the well maintained trails of Torrey Pines Reserve and the serene stretch of Black's and Torrey Pines beach set against soaring 300 ft cliffs. Luckily, tide will be low and I'm looking forward to a beautiful hike on the beach.
Hiking is more fun when you get a chance to know your fellow hikers and trade tall stories - so let's get together for an after-hike brunch at BJ's restaurant on Villa La Jolla Dr. Please indicate in your RSVP whether or not you're in for brunch.
We will meet at 7:55 AM, do the introductions, and leave at 8:00 AM.If you plan on using the restroom facility in the parking area, kindly arrive early enough so that you don't hold up the rest of the hikers.
This hike has been cross posted with other groups.
Hike details: We will hike down the Broken hill trail towards the beach, walk South along the beach (if tide level permits) past Blacks beach and then turn around and walk North until we come up to the main access road (Torrey Pines Park Rd). Here we will stop to accommodate those who need to use the restroom facility. We will continue up on Torrey Pines Park Rd which is slightly steep, take a short detour to the Guy Fleming trail which loops back to Torrey Pines Park Rd and walk back to the parking lot.
Distance: About 8 miles.
Approximate hiking time : About 2 1/2 to 3 hours, depending on your pace.
Tide: Low tide at 9:41 AM
Note: If you want to hike at a pace faster or slower than the majority of the group, you are welcome to do so and I will assume that you are familiar with the place and absolutely fine with returning on your own to the parking lot.
Note: DOGS NOT ALLOWED ON TORREY PINES RESERVE/BEACH.
Meeting spot: We will meet near the fence at the North end of the Torrey Pines Golf Course parking lot. The parking lot is to the west of N. Torrey Pines Rd and at the intersection of Callan Rd and N. Torrey Pines Rd. Additional street side parking is available on Callan Rd.
Hiking Essentials: Water, light snack and a light jacket. Highly recommend shoes with good traction because parts of the hike will be on dirt.
Water fountain located near the restrooms and also on the Guy Fleming trail.
From Interstate 5 Traveling North:
Exit Genesee Avenue and turn left (West)
Stay on Genesee Avenue as it curves to the right (North) and becomes North
Torrey Pines Road
Look for large green Golf Course sign on the right after Science Park Way.
Turn right at sign and follow curve under North Torrey Pines; this is Callan Rd.
At stop sign, turn right and find a parking space at the end near the driving range.
From Interstate 5 Traveling South:
Exit Carmel Valley Road and turn right (Heading West).
Follow Carmel Valley Rd until it dead ends at Camino Del Mar/ N. Torrey Pines Rd. Turn left onto Camino Del Mar which becomes N. Torrey Pines Rd.
Proceed up the hill past the Torrey Pines Golf Course Driving Range. Exit at the green "Torrey Pines Course/ The Lodge" sign on your right.
Turn right at the stop sign on Callan Rd and then make an immediate right after the stop sign at the Torrey Pines Lodge.
Turn right into the parking lot, and park at the end near the driving range.
