El Monte Flume Trail

We'll be climbing the Flume Trail from El Monte County Park to Blossom Valley, about 2.2 miles if we go all the way. This is a steep trail with lots of switchbacks, and great views of El Monte Valley. We'll return by the same route.

Since the trail is steep, the pace will be slow, at least on the way up. There is bench near the highest part of the trail, about 1.8 miles out. If we've had enough, we can turn around there instead of going all the way to Blossom Valley.

Meet at 9:30 AM in the free parking area on the north side of El Monte Road near El Monte County Park (Thomas 1213 A6, N[masked] W[masked]).

SUGGESTED ROUTE FROM DOWNTOWN SAN DIEGO: Go east on I-8 to exit 23 (Lake Jennings Park Road). Go north on Lake Jennings Park Road about two miles and turn right on El Monte Road. Follow El Monte Road about five miles to the trailhead parking area, which will be on your left. If you reach the entrance to El Monte County Park, you've gone a little too far.

This hike was originally scheduled for November 21, but it was cancelled due to RAIN. Pray for better weather on December 5!

The weather was iffy, but we were lucky. It was cool and partly cloudy, which made for some great views. We returned to the trailhead parking area at noon.

Right now (6:15 AM Thu.) there is rain in some places, but it may not continue long enough to cancel the hike. Therefore, I will go to the trailhead and make a go/no go decision there. You may want to call the park at[masked], but you may get an answering machine.

The weather forecast is for cool temperatures with very little chance of rain. There is a marked crosswalk next to the parking area. Be sure to park in the area reserved for single vehicles (unless you bring your horse trailer). The Flume Trail has been renamed, but it's still in the same place.
