Marian Bear Park

This is a slightly abbreviated version of our San Clemente Canyon hike, about three or four miles round trip, with some shade. It's a fairly easy hike, but for those who want some rough stuff, there will be an optional scramble up and down a steep, slippery path near the turnaround point. A little side trip along Cobb Trail may also be in the works.

Marian Bear Park has two large trailheads that we've used in the past, but this time we'll start at the smaller Genesee Avenue trailhead. It's on the east side of Genesee Ave. just south of Highway 52 (Thomas 1228 E6, N[masked] W[masked]). The approximate street address is 5501 Genesee Ave.,  San Diego CA 92117.

SUGGESTED ROUTE FROM SAN DIEGO: Go north on Interstate 5 and east on Highway 52. Exit at Genesee Ave. and turn right at the end of the ramp and then right again into the parking area.

The number 41 MTS bus stops near the parking area. It runs about every 15 minutes.

Five hikers, on the trail about an hour and a half, covered slightly more than three miles. SURPRISE: The nature trail at the top of the hill at the southwest side of the park has been restored to some extent. We scrambled up the hill and found that the signs had been restored.

Philip, this is my local hiking canyon, here & Rose Canyon. But I'm going to SD Fair that/this Thurs. Have a great time, and please tell your hikers this is one of the closest "cool" trails in San Diego, during summers breeze from LJ/PB and large trees keep it 10-20 degrees cooler. Might also be Clairemont Dr./Regents bus stop also (west end), and good bike connection under I-5/SR 52 interchg bridges, near rail lines.
Be safe, thanks for showing of my local rhumps. -danl aka Walk with Him (facebook) & WalkwithhimFcbk :twiiter
