Sail, but no hike. Join me for the Festival of Sail Parade Sail

This is the day before the Festival opens. The Parade will be led by The Californian, San Diego's homebuilt topsail schooner. Starting at the Maritime Museum, we will sail out to the head of SD Bay where we will lead the parade of tall ships to their berths along the Embarcadero. Cost is $60 for adults. Hurry up tickets are limited. Details available at the Maritime Museum website.

Breeze picked up and so did the swell off Point Loma. Great conditions for this sail. Weather was perfect.

I will be out there, but since I am a Festival of Sail volunteer each year, I am checking out the venue. I was on the Californian a few years back, and would love to do a sail on it again with you all another time.

I understand the Californian will get a new deck. My friend who is working on the San Salvador has seen the wood. She'll be down for that maintenance after September.

This will be special. The Californian is a beauty. I've sailed her to the Coronados.

You must be on board before 8:30am or you will be left high and dry. You will have the opportunity to help with the sails or maybe take over the helm. I have binoculars and we will be able to id all the participating tall ships by their type of rigging. Suggest you use trolley--Little Italy is the stop--hike the rest. Bring camera, snack, H2O and sunscreen/hat. Those prone to seasickness, skip this one.
