David Sanborn @ Anthology

David Sanborn has played with the most famous musicians not only in jazz (Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Gil Evans, Charlie Haden, Jack DeJohnette, and Bill Frisell), but also in the rock world. These include the Eagles, Stones, Stevie Wonder, Clapton, Springsteen, James Taylor, Grateful Dead, Neena, and David Bowie just to name a few.

Lately, you may have seen David when he sits in with the band on the Late Night with David Letterman show.

Here's a short CNN interview where you can get a taste of his sound: CNN Interview

And a TV appearance

Although he leans towards smooth jazz these days, his talent transcends the musical selection, and he has been known to break into a standard or two.

About the venue, I've tried repeatedly, including communicating with the owner of Anthology, to get our own section for events, but to no avail. The late show that starts at 9:30 has $10 value tickets (they are listed at $7, but there's a $3 service charge) with 3/4 view seating upstairs. If we get there about 8:45 or so, we should be able to get at least a few seats together along the rail. I'll be wearing my San Diego Jazz Meetup button with the picture of a sax on it and if you identify yourself, I'll hand you one too.

See you there!

Not a good experience at Anthology. After being removed from the 3/4 view seats, there was no place for us to sit. I went down to management to complain that they oversold upstairs and since when was the 3/4 view not $10? I was told "Sorry, it's standing room only sometimes and there's nothing they can do". I mentioned Barbaras Mom could not stand and they said sorry. I think I got a little loud (I have a long fuse, but after waiting so long not to get a seat I was really pissed) This is the last $10 Vticket I buy there. I hope those who stayed saw a good show.

David Sanborn seemed tired - this was the 6th show in 3 days. Cant blame him I guess. Atmosphere was a little flat. First Meetup I have attended with Jazz Meetup, so did not know anyone and was unable to identify any members from the group. Been to Anthology quite a few times before. This was not the best experience. Service was bad. Took an hour to get a drink after standing an hour in line. Managed to get a seat to watch the concert on a monitor.

The whole experience last night really did leave us w/a very sour taste in our mouths. Larry, we had wondered what happened to you after you went downstairs, but your post explains it all. I can't believe they ended the entire episode even worse than we had thought. I'm so sorry they did that to you... and to all of us.

Earlier this afternoon, I wrote a detailed email to Anthology's management voicing my complaint about their poor customer service. They've responded and would like to act on it, but I'd really like to get your feedback if you don't mind, before I answer their reply. I'll forward the emails to your email, and will wait to hear from you.

Thank you for all the work you put into this. I just want you to know that I do appreciate everything you did, and tried to do.

I gt a $10 over the phone. Does not appear to be available over the internet. Doors open at 9:30. Said to be there at 8:45 as it will probably sell out. Show starts at 10.

Looks like they ran out of the $10 (7+3) V-TIX for this show. If you can afford the $25, it's still worth it. 14 members are attending. Remember to get there early so we can walk in together.

Do we need to buy tickets now? I don't see the $7 tickets listed.
