David Sanborn has played with the most famous musicians not only in jazz (Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Gil Evans, Charlie Haden, Jack DeJohnette, and Bill Frisell), but also in the rock world. These include the Eagles, Stones, Stevie Wonder, Clapton, Springsteen, James Taylor, Grateful Dead, Neena, and David Bowie just to name a few.
Lately, you may have seen David when he sits in with the band on the Late Night with David Letterman show.
Here's a short CNN interview where you can get a taste of his sound: CNN Interview
And a TV appearance
Although he leans towards smooth jazz these days, his talent transcends the musical selection, and he has been known to break into a standard or two.
About the venue, I've tried repeatedly, including communicating with the owner of Anthology, to get our own section for events, but to no avail.
The late show that starts at 9:30 has $10 value tickets (they are listed at $7, but there's a $3 service charge) with 3/4 view seating upstairs. If we get there about 8:45 or so, we should be able to get at least a few seats together along the rail. I'll be wearing my San Diego Jazz Meetup button with the picture of a sax on it and if you identify yourself, I'll hand you one too.
See you there!
