Welcome San Diego Pittie Parents! Together our mission is to end the negative stigma of Pit Bulls and bully breeds by promoting the PAWSitive side of this misunderstood breed.
We are a community-driven educational outreach program made up of by like-minded RESPONSIBLE pet parents and citizens of the community. We are dedicated to creating a united front of Pit Bull Ambassadors regardless of background, breed, or rescue affiliation. We organize outings for members on a regular basis (2-3 events per month) and help create pit-friendly environments for socialization, training, and networking with other Pittie Parents. Some of our events include:
-Adoption Events... and so much more!
We support several local bully rescues however do not affiliate with one single group above another. Our members understand that their pet is a LIFETIME commitment and we do not post information about dogs who need to be re-homed. Understandably there are circumstances that arise when a family can no longer keep a pet, or maybe you’re looking to add to your pit-friendly household. If so, please reach out to us and we can offer contacts for local rescue groups and organizations that may be able to help.
One of our core beliefs is the vital need to spay and neuter our pets. San Diego shelters are overrun by the homeless pet epidemic, in order to help relieve the overpopulation of homeless dogs and to educate our family and friends, we only allow members with altered dogs to be part of the group. If you would like more information on how to get your dog spayed or neutered at low cost, or possibly for free, contact Animal Welfare Foundation (www.awfsandiego.org). We DO NOT support breeding of any kind and will ban any member who advertises the breeding, selling, or fighting of dogs.
We ask that all members actively participate - we are always open to ideas for new Meetup events, so please get involved! In order to maintain our Meetup Page and to provide amenities for local events (like bottled water, yellow ribbons, extra leashes, and SDPP merchandise) we ask for a small annual $5.95 membership fee at time of sign-up. You will receive a 30-day free trial to check out what we're all about, and we hope you'll want to become part of the SDPP family. We ensure your money is put back into the group. We also welcome monthly contributions to help fund two large ongoing projects:
1) Our "Pitties in the Park" annual October Pit Bull Awareness Day Celebration
2) Assist in our goal of becoming a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Foundation to create community-based educational-driven outreach programs like hands-on trainin with kids, providing dog food and vet care for the homeless, building gift baskets for shelter dogs, facilitative fundraisers for local rescue groups and charities, and so much more!
Founded in 2008, this group was formerly called “The SD Pit Bull Meet Up Group” and over the years has transitioned from “San Diego Pit Bull Lovers!” to its current status as "San Diego Pittie Parents". In 2015 the torch was handed to Kristin Porter and Jolene Figueroa.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
