Announcing the Fifth Annual Brazilian Day San Diego on September 9th 2012

San Diego, CA – August 22, 2012 – The Capoeira Institute, a non-profit that supports Brazilian Culture, is proud to announce the Fifth Annual Brazilian Day San Diego on Sunday September 9th from 11 am – 7 pm PST. This year’s event features spectacular dance and musical performances from local artists, as well as popular entertainers directly from Brazil and from various cities in the United States.

“If you want to experience being in Brazil or you simply love Brazilian culture, you can’t miss this amazing annual event,” says Paulo Batuta Lima, executive director at both Brazilian Day San Diego and Capoeira Institute Inc. “It is all about bringing the spirit of Brazil closer to those who love this country ”.

Founded in 2001 Capoeira Institute has a mission to educate the public about the Brazilian culture. The non-profit offers several activities such as capoeira demonstrations at schools, workshops in Brazilian Fine Arts, percussion classes for all ages and other community undertakings. It was only natural for Paulo Batuta Lima, to produce the celebration of the Brazil’s independence here in San Diego; making it the largest Brazilian festival of the west coast with an estimated 50,000 attendees in 2011. This year’s attendance is expected to surpass 60,000.
As a free and family friendly celebration the festival always offers great activities, Brazilian food and entertainment for all ages. There are several artists, groups and dj’s direct from Brazil and all over the US performing at the “Aquarela do Brasil” and the “Latin Explosion” stages. The parade will feature five amazing carnival floats entirely handmade from recycled material. Each one of them will have a cultural Brazilian theme. The parade starts at Dawes street and Garnet avenue in Pacific Beach at 3.30pm.

Do not miss this amazing event to get a taste of Brazilian culture in San Diego. This is an experience you will not forget. Join us and bring your friends, family and kids. We would like to thank our volunteers, friends, sponsors and vendors for making this possible.
