Come and enjoy the start of spring with a hike (moderate pace) up and around the wild and rugged north side of Mt. Diablo. Frequent stops will be taken to look at wild flowers and waterfalls. Come prepared for 9-10 miles hike with about 2700 feet elevation gain. Hiking poles and boots are recommended because be will be on some narrow and rocky trails.
Special Note: If you want a fast paced hike and is not interested in stopping to admire the wildflowers, this hike is not for you.
Meet: Parking lot at the end of Mitchell Canyon Rd. in Clayton.
Bring: Lunch, water, snacks to share and layered clothing. (There is no water on the hike and if it is a warm day be sure to bring extra water.)
Directions: From Oakland\Berkeley, take Hwy 24 east through Caldecott tunnel, continue onto Hwy 680. Exit at Ygnacio Valley Rd. Right on Ygnacio Valley Rd. to Pine Hollow Rd. Right on Pine Hollow Rd. to Mitchell Canyon Rd. Right on Mitchell Canyon Rd and follow to parking lot (parking fee $6, exact change). Possible optional post-hike dinner stop.
