Mt. Diablo – Macedo Ranch to Sentinel Rock

We will hike up the stony southwest flank of Mt. Diablo, stopping for lunch on Sentinel Rock. The return trip is through a wooded canyon (sometimes grassy), along a seasonal stream. Hike is almost 9 miles long, with a total elevation gain of approximately 1,900 feet. If conditions of the prior weekend persist, we will see Indian Paintbrush and Indian Warrior, and will enjoy the sight and scent of ceanothus in bloom. See trail map of our route at www.sfeinberg.com/MapF .

CANCELLATION: Any rain cancels.

BRING: $6 for parking fee, lunch, and at least one liter (2 standard bottles) of water; hiking boots recommended; a hiking poll will be helpful and will reduce any danger when we scramble over the boulders in the vicinity of Sentinel Rock.

MEET: 10:30 a.m. at Macedo Ranch

DIRECTIONS: Take Hwy. I-680. If coming from the north, exit at Stone Valley Road (east), in Alamo. Continue east on Stone Valley Rd. Shortly after Monte Vista High School is a stop sign at Green Valley Rd. Turn left on Green Valley Rd. and continue to end, entering Macedo Ranch parking lot. If coming from the south, exit at Diablo Rd. in Danville and go east; turn left on Green Valley Rd. and continue to end.

    Seth--
Estimated completion time? I'm guessing around 4:30, but I'd appreciate your best guess since you're leading! :-)

Looking for a carpool ride from San Francisco or from a BART station, pitching in for expenses. Thank you very much.

More of a country type & Sacto. is a nice fit. But bay area roots & miss ocean/more lush landscape. Looking forward to Mt. Diablo again.
