We will hike up the stony southwest flank of Mt. Diablo, stopping for lunch on Sentinel Rock. The return trip is through a wooded canyon (sometimes grassy), along a seasonal stream. Hike is almost 9 miles long, with a total elevation gain of approximately 1,900 feet. If conditions of the prior weekend persist, we will see Indian Paintbrush and Indian Warrior, and will enjoy the sight and scent of ceanothus in bloom. See trail map of our route at www.sfeinberg.com/MapF .
CANCELLATION: Any rain cancels.
BRING: $6 for parking fee, lunch, and at least one liter (2 standard bottles) of water; hiking boots recommended; a hiking poll will be helpful and will reduce any danger when we scramble over the boulders in the vicinity of Sentinel Rock.
