Sierra Singles Shell Beach 2B Hike

Enjoy a scenic, moderate but steady paced, 9.5mi. hike through shady woods to four beaches on Tomales Bay. Return to trailhead c.5pm (6pm if we swim). Hike is followed by an optional dinner or drink.

Bring: lunch, liquids, sturdy shoes, and layered clothing. We may take swimming break at beach depending on weather and tide, so swimsuit is an option (too public to be optional).

Meet: Shell beach parking lot.

Directions: from Fairfax take Sir Francis Drake Blvd north to Olema. Turn right on Hwy 1. Go about 2 miles, turn left on Sir Francis Drake to Inverness. Go about 5 miles, turn right on Camino Del Mar (just after town of Inverness) continue 0.5 miles until road ends at the parking lot.

Carpools: You may make carpool arrangements by offering or requesting rides in comments below or e-mailing other hike participants directly. It is best to check below to see whether the ride you want is already being offered before posting a separate request for a ride, or the person offering the ride may assume that you made a separate post because you do not want a ride from them. Traditional carpool start locations for this hike are 9:30AM at any of (1) Rockridge BART (at the east entrance/taxi area off Keith Ave.), (2) North Berkeley BART (entrance), or (3) in San Francisco at the northwest corner of Geary Blvd. and Funston Ave.

Leader: Tom Hinshaw, (510)[masked] (cell[masked]), or [masked]

Sorry. I lost internet last night and just got it back. My dog got sprayed by a skunk late yesterday as well. I need to take care of that because the house is for sale. I did call and cancel though. Hope you had a great hike!

How many feet of elevation changes are we talking about for this 9 miles hike (approx) ? Thanks

    August 5, 2013

    • Tom H.

It is somewhere a little over 1000 feet, taking into account ups and downs on the trial. In the jargon of the local chapter Sierra Club, the code "2B" translates into a hike of between 6 and 10 miles in length and 1000 to 2000 feet in elevation gain (see http://sfbay.sierracl... ).
