Bay Trail bike ride - visit the Hayward Shoreline Interpretive Center

Repeat of a popular group bike ride along the Bay Trail, through Oakland's Kennedy Tract district to San Leandro marina (snack stop) to Hayward Shoreline Interpretive Center to learn about the bay estuary wildlife. Return via BART from Hayward. Total distance we will travel by bike is approx. 20 miles. A bike helmet is required. Please bring a bike in good condition, preferably mountain bike or bike with knobby tires (half the distance will be on gravel trail.)  Don't forget water and sunscreen.

Glenn Kirby from Southern Alameda County Sierra Club has offered to once again join us as a docent for the shoreline part.

Here is a picture from the last time we did this ride.

Hi Georgie, there is a bike rental shop in JL Square if you really wanted to participate, BayAreaBikes. They can maybe also help you fix up your bike if it's an easy fix (like the tires, wheels or brakes, or quick adjustment to derailleur.)

Always good to check the bikes out thoroughly the day before the ride...and an A,B,C quick check the morning of the ride...air, brakes, chain, cassette, quick release...

Oh, I hadn't seen the note on knobby tires. We have hybrid bikes, but tires aren't particularly knobby. It looks like some in the picture are like ours. Did those folks have trouble with the gravel? I know it can be tricky.

Hi tania, the trail is flat and I don't anticipate problems

I'm looking forward to the ride next weekend. The picture I was refering to is the "backdrop" for this site, with the trees and grasses, but most of it is hidden by the post. Thanks for the response!

Hi Tania, that is an honest to goodness piece of the Bay Trail you see, if you are talking about the picture with the bicyclists. You'll get to see it next weekend. Note to all: rain cancels this event! I would be postponed. Looks like we're catching some much needed participation, finally. Stay tuned / watch this meetup for updates.
